I'm a bit nervous about this offseason...getting linked to all these big names, I'm worried we strike out and then overpay a couple of guys like Brantley and Happ, or make a trade built around Gurriel for Lindor and get better but way more expensive
I think under that scenario, which is basically worst case, you can sign Happ for a 1 year deal likely. Probably can't get JBJ or Brantley for 1 year, but perhaps 2 year deal. Then you just let Happ go and basically go into next free agency with tons of cash to work with and potentially better free agents.

It's only a bad plan if you sign lesser guys to 3-4 year deals just so they don't miss out on guys, which is not really in their DNA. I think they would trade for guys with control before making those mistakes.

I think Walker and Odorizzi are more realistic than Happ and getting better but way more expensive is fine when you're the richest organization in baseball.

Sounds like we would have a really good chance to sign Kim if he was a free agent. Unfortunately, unless we have the highest posting, won't even get a chance. I kind of hope we just overpay a bit on the posting fee and then hope to sign him to a long-term team friendly deal like we did with Gurriel in order to make up for overpaying a bit on the posting fee.

It's not based on the highest posting fee anymore - the player negotiates with MLB teams and the KBO team gets a percentage of the total amount of the contract.

They changed the posting system. He is a free agent, but the posting fee is based on the total value of the contract he signs.

20% for first 25M, 17.5 for 2nd, 15% for anything after of his total contract

That's what you get for clicking on first link on Google for KBO posting fee resullts...

Well then, no reason we don't have one of if not the best shot to land him.

Still seems to be 30 day window to negotiate, I assume he can agree to a deal with a team any time though before that?

Kim is such a wild card. Medium risk high reward. At worst he's a utility man with some pop. At best he's an above average regular. He's expected to get 10-12M per year which is what we're paying Roark to suck.

I think I would take a chance on Kim ahead of pretty much every other infield option we've discussed so far.

Adam Eaton to the White Sox. 1 year 8M.

Solid deal and one less Springer suitor.

White Sox did well here. Traded Eaton to Washington a few years ago for Giolito, Lopez and Dane Dunning. Giolito is an ace, Dunning was traded for Lynn and Lopez is in the pen. And they just got Eaton back.

I get that the owners have a lot of money but money is finite. I'd rather keep the affordable yet productive Gurriel (+ good prospects) and sign DJ or Bauer than give up assets and a big contract to Lindor

They're saying all the right things if nothing else. Controlled aggression is the name of the game I think.

If you ever become desperate or say "we HAVE to get this guy no matter what", you tend to make a big mistake.

Let's hope it pays off.

When you look around, no one in the division is buying.

Ny wants to keep Lemahieu.

Boston could take on salary for value but doesn't want to add a fa.

TB might have to trade Snell.

Baltimore can't even draft properly.

Sounds like an Edwin situation.

Id gladly stay away at that price if its 5 or 6 years. Give me Kim or Wong via FA or trade for Bryant or Lindor.

Santana will bring OBP, power, and solid defence to 1B for them. I like the fit in Kansas City too. I still think O'Hearn has a chance at being an above-average first baseman but I will never knock a team for adding talent to their roster.

I’ll say it again... the Buffalo/Toronto split will be a tough sell to top free agents. Better to work the trade market IMO.

Fine with me.

Same here. The only attractive part is he would solve the CF hole. Brantley is the better hitter and would fit in the line up nicely. I just don't know where the answer would be at CF, cause it ain't Grichuk.
