After the earlier deals, you have to keep making moves like this. I believe that those who are always worried about the prospect pool are just used to losing. No offence intended in that either, its just how it gets here in Toronto. This is the type of move a winning franchise makes.

If we always want to be at the top of all prospect pools then understand that usually means being at the bottom of the standings. This is what you do with prospects, especially considering we already have many important pieces that were either drafted by us or developed by us.

"Jon Heyman ?@JonHeymanCBS
dickey agrees to donate 1 percent of his salary to jays charity. that's 300 grand by my calculation. very nice. #jays"

You're right, you can always acquire TDAs, Syndergaards, so rebuilding the system to being at the top will be easy! :handclap:

Even if D'Arnaud and Syndergaard were still here, they would be blocked. Its nice to have a top 3 farm, but I'd rather not have a 70 win team. Even as a depleted farm, its still fairly respectable. Still a bunch of young, promising and controllable players in both the system and on the Jays.

Good pitching is never blocked.

Still upset over how much we gave up in this trade. Excited about having Dickey on the team and the great rotation we'll have but I can't believe we had to give up TDA and Syndergaard. What makes it even worse is that we're going to be stuck with JPA as out catcher which is just ugh.

This is what makes me upset the most. I can't stand seeing him strikeout every AB, swinging at pitches not even close to the plate.

Actually, if we're lucky, in a few years we'll have AJ Jimenez, who has an insane arm and a much better bat (less power, though) than Arencibia. Had TJ last year, so we'll have to say how he rebounds, but he looks like potentially a better option than JPA eventually.

TDA wouldn't be blocked. Arincebia isnt very good, easily our worst starter.

Well said.

At the end of the day, you want to be a winner on the field, not on a list of best farm systems.

The right move at the right time. Now let's just hope it pays off in the next 2-3 years.

Predictions on AA's next trade?

I think something centered around JPA/Lind + Rasmus...

It's as easy as acquiring a Cy young winner.

Seriously, give to get folks. We depleted the top of the system, but we're one of the better teams in the league now and still don't have one of the worst prospect lists. Compare us to the Yankees, Angels, Dodgers, go go go.

I do agree, you do have to give to get. We gave a lot, but are indeed getting a lot. As fans, we tend to want to win deals, I guess, and this is more like a wash. I guess it's just shocking from AA to not outright win a deal
Given what they've just acquired this past month, why would it not be possible?

This is the MLB. When you enter the "big boy's club" you don't develop players, you sign them when they've made it.

I don't know that we will always be able to do that with the new compensatory system of this CBA. That's my main concern.

Also, we're not quite the big boys club until we win in the standings and get the attendance up.
