And if Syndergaard was still here in 2 years and was a #2 pitcher who was major league ready you easily move Buerhle or Romero out to make room.

Is that before or after Kyle Drabek became the staff ace, and Travis Snider won the home run derby?

By time NS got up, Buerhle would probably be gone.

Sure. But I don't like hypotheticals, because NS could bust, Drabek could gain more command, Hutchison be a 2-3, sign free agents etc...

After the earlier deals, you have to keep making moves like this. I believe that those who are always worried about the prospect pool are just used to losing. No offence intended in that either, its just how it gets here in Toronto. This is the type of move a winning franchise makes.

If we always want to be at the top of all prospect pools then understand that usually means being at the bottom of the standings. This is what you do with prospects, especially considering we already have many important pieces that were either drafted by us or developed by us.

Good point, I'll admit I'm privy to this mindset being a Leaf and Jay fan. We're perenially in prospect-building mode, I'm not used to this new mindset Rogers is backing

AA on revamping the staff completely: "It had to be done. If we don't pitch, we're not going to go anywhere."

"When we get excited about prospects, and debuts, we often forget, this is all about winning."

I do agree, you do have to give to get. We gave a lot, but are indeed getting a lot. As fans, we tend to want to win deals, I guess, and this is more like a wash. I guess it's just shocking from AA to not outright win a deal

I don't know that we will always be able to do that with the new compensatory system of this CBA. That's my main concern.

Also, we're not quite the big boys club until we win in the standings and get the attendance up.

I agree. I don't live in TO but have been a diehard fan since the Geroge Bell/Lloyd Mosbey days. I do think, however, that a sign of willingness from the ownership to invest in the club will elevate the Jays to what they used to be. Fans will follow.

Obviously time will only tell - but I feel that management have made the first move. Here's hoping it works out.

And I can't wait for the season to start. Screw the Canucks!

AA " We always have these prospects to either help our team or to use them in trade. Sometimes when we talk about these prospects we lose the fact that it's all about winning"

Love it!

I know you wont agree but it works the other way too, I am sure you would of happily dealt Halladay and Delgado in the mid 90's if you got the chance to acquire a established piece too. Not all prospects bust you know.

He was absolutely right. Tampa is the perfect model, people panic about Arencibia, Lind etc when really there are teams that do much better with much worse on the field.

I'd probably do that but many people around here know how high I am on Gose.

I'm on the Gose bandwagon too.
I remember the day we traded Wallace for him and the mass's went crazy and I've been a Gose fan ever since lol.

Lind is pretty bad as a 1B though. There aren't many first basemen worse than he is overall.

"Lose sight of the end-game"

It's true, not gonna lie

I'm dissapointed that we gave up what we gave up. Sure I want Dickey and sure I want to compete for a world series. I just feel we could have gotten more for D'Arnaud, and Syndergaard.

I don't think AA will be able to replinish the farm as quick. The loopholes he used before to get draft picks have been closed, and he doesn't have a Roy Halladay to trade to recoup prospects unless he tries to trade what we got now which probably means we're having a bad season which wouldn't be good considering we're supposed to be going for it.

Whatever, I'm happy we got Dickey, but we better at least make the playoffs. I'm not sold on the deal yet, but I'm open to accepting it, as I pretty much have to. Time will tell.
You thought we could get more than a Cy Young Award winner? Perhaps you wanted an MVP thrown in as well?

Zaun coming on....This should be good.

Gurantee he says d'Arnaud is overrated.

Can some one update this list?

His speed D and arm combination is fantastic. So many people bring up Devon White's name when talking about Rasmus but its Gose who should be drawing that comparison.

Its not that I dont like Rasmus, Gose is just better.

Like I've said before, it may look like a lot that we're giving up, but when you add in Dickey's contract he has so much value, and it allows AA to have the ability to re-sign JJ too.

Amazing that this will be the first time since consumer internet existed that the Jays go into the season as a favourite. AA has done a tremendous job, whether it all works out or not.

Oh I'm aware of that but you're whole argument is predicated on Syndergaard becoming a #2 in two years. I realize some prospects make it, but not all of them, in fact most don't. And a #2 in two years is generous expectation, to say the least.

If we're competing and our best batters are entering their prime, might as well go for it. Not as if our farm is 30th because of these deals.
