I think the jays got great value in this trade. Contract wise amazing.

Agreed. AA was talking about that on the radio just a minute ago. The fact that Dickey is signed for 3 years + a club option at an amount that is well less than "market value" had to factor into the trade. The Mets knew what Dickey wanted and they knew that it was a great deal $$$ wise so naturally they wanted more.

I agree it was a lot to give up (and as a prospect junkie (both MLB and NHL) it hurts at lot) but I have faith in AA to do what he can to rebuild the prospect pool over the next few years using any and all means. He's shown before that he can find & take advantage of any loopholes and he's obviously got an awesome scouting staff, so I'm not too concerned. The key is the team has to excel now, there's no longer any excuses. Any of the next 3 years without a deep playoff run will be seen as a failure and will make losing those high-end prospects hurt all the more.

Like I've said before, it may look like a lot that we're giving up, but when you add in Dickey's contract he has so much value, and it allows AA to have the ability to re-sign JJ too.
And if we don't find sustained success with this roster we sell Dickey for prospects????? :sarcasm:

No one is saying we don't have a great team inspite of our holes. Just talking about how we could fill those holes to make the team even better.
Venture to the main baseball board thread on this..... a couple of real winners in there bashing the BJs, calling them for last place in AL East. :shakehead :help:

what did AA say ?

Went into details on the trade. Said they had D'Arnaud on the table for 10 days but NY wasn't moving, went back to NY and said what would get it done. NY said if you add in Syndergaard it would entice them.

Said we either have prospects to develop for the big club or use in trade. He loves Syndergaard but his timing of arrival to the big leagues doesn't match with the big club right now. Bautista and Edwin are in their prime so felt it was a good time to go for it.

Also said you can't be caught in the middle, you're either going for it or not. You get a small window and when it comes you have to go for it.

Says when dealing and talking about prospects sometimes we lose the fact that it's all about winning.

Lind is pretty bad as a 1B though. There aren't many first basemen worse than he is overall.

Sure, I don't love the idea of having him as the 1B. He could turn it around, but I doubt it, he can be ok in a platoon role.

Look at Carlos Pena on Tampa, can he even hit .200 anymore? Pitching solves many problems.

One thing you gotta Remember lind is at his contract year so he should produce big this year.

That would be amazing....hopefully we get lucky and ship him at the deadline for a prospect or pick ;)

I hate athletes who seem to take it to another level every time its a "contract year".

The Rays didn't even make it last year.

If AA wants to "go for it all" this year, he should just try to field the strongest possible lineup. If that means signing Laroche or Swisher to replace Lind, he should do it.

I gotta question, why would a batter see good pitchs batting after a superstar. For example, why would Lind see good pitchs batting after Jose and EE.

He wouldn't, you have it backwards. Also it's not universal that a player batting infront of say, Miguel Cabrera or Jose Bautista will see more fastballs, but it is a common occurrence depending on the pitcher on the mound. The reason a player hitting infront of a 'superstar' might see better pitches is because the last thing that pitcher wants to do is walk him and have the guy on base for when Cabrera or Bautista hit a home run. Again, it's not written in stone, and is very situational.

Anyone looking forward to the Jays playing the Rays next year.

The Rays have had the Jays number the last few years and are a very exciting team to watch.

I'm looking forward to whopping their ass. I can't stand them, they always have our number. No matter how many injuries TB has we just can't buy a win at the Trop. And asking us to win a series against them..nah forget it! This season though will be a different story.

Still dont love what we gave up in the deal but on the bright side in the last month we have acquired:
A Cy Young winner, another teams ace, 2 former batting champions including the best leadoff hitter in the game, maybe the best bench player in the game, and worst of the major pieces we got back a known innings eater with 2 no hitters to his name.

Not a bad off season.

What's done is done. My disappointment at the cost is offset by the very team-friendly contract. Ballsy move by Anthopolous (even if not quite Jedi-level this time around). Glad Gose is still here though.

Welcome RA - look forward to your participation in Derringer's 13 days of Christmas next year (sporting your 2013 World Series ring, of course!).
