Does anyone think Lind could improve his numbers just because of the guys in front of him?

I wouldn't doubt he gets to AAA by the end of the season, but I think he needs to spend a full year in Buffalo. Two years minimum in my eyes.

He spent 2 months in AA last year before getting hurt. My guess is he's in Buffalo by July, spends the rest of the year there and all of next year. But it's not hard to imagine that if he crushed it the first 2 months, seeing him in Buffalo sooner, and if he crushed there too maybe earning a spot in ST 2014

With all the talk about AA being tapped out-- (couldnt have done the trade without buck involved) I am pretty worried he knows he cant resign JJ. After all-- the payroll didnt go up after this deal for the current season and next season RA's salary would essentially take the place of JJ's salary. Then again if they can make the playoffs and be successful anything can happen.

If Rogers is willing to spend it, it's not my money (or yours), so I don't really agree with the "justification" argument. If the owner says yes, why not? It's not like the NFL or NHL with a hard cap.

Again, he'd still be better than Lind (and probably by a fair margin). And if Rogers told AA, you have the money to sign Swisher and still extend Johnson, why wouldn't you do it?

If I'm assuming Rogers has 200 million to spend on players, sure why not.... but if I were to assume that, I would probably have my head in the clouds.

Then again, why not just overpay Ortiz to begin with if we had the funds available?

Payroll could go up if they get some nice playoff revenue from any home dates. As you can tell I don't think JJ signs during the season, I think he waits it out and goes to free agency.

Maybe getting Dicky is a way of convincing JJ to resign? I mean, nothing screams "I want out team to win .... NOW!" than this move. Having a team dedicated to winning might entice him to stay?

But then again, money talks and if JJ has a strong season I am sure he'll have his choice to suitors, some of which also contenders. I can already seeing the Rangers making a mad push for him.

There were those that didn't believe Rogers would ever live up to their word that they would spend anything close to 100 million if the time was right. I'm not naive enough to believe they don't have an internal budget limit, but I also don't know what the exact number is.

As for Ortiz, he signed before the big Marlins trade, so I don't think AA was in that win-now mode until he knew he had the core for a contending team.

I am not going to lie, AA has made me greedy. I want to see more! Especially what he can do at 1B/DH and Catcher.

If they're going to trade all their top prospects and go for it, I doubt they would half-ass it. That would be counter productive. I think we'll see a 1B acquired.

I would have to assume that if Rogers was willing to spend more and AA wants Swisher and he wants to be here, it would have happened by now.

Also that with the window of the AL East in its weakened state and Bautista still being in his prime, its the perfect time to contend and I'm sure it wasnt just a spur of the moment thing when the Marlins deal came up. AA even said he was aggressively pursuing free agents.

Why would Grienke want to sign on a 70 win team when he can sign on a 85 win team for about the same cash?

So how are people feeling about this trade so far?

Also I wonder who will be the starting pitcher now on opening day

I hate, absolutely hate, the fact we had to give up TDA. I love his potential and have him pegged as a Brian McCann type catcher.

Getting Dickey though is pretty good. From what I've seen, most knuckleballers can continue their form from 38-41(arbitrarily chosen), and the fact that he has 2 different types of knuckleball really helps him. It pegs us as favorites in the AL East (I thought the Rays were our biggest competition before this) and if all goes to plan (JJ goes back to normal form, Dickey continues to be an ace), we could be World Series contenders.

I think AA fully expects to re-sign Johnson. At least by his recent remarks all signs point to the Jays doing their best to keep him.

If the Jays are able to average 35 - 40,000 people in the Dome next year this should raise the team's budget.

I'm not extremely knowledgeable about baseball, but who are we looking at as the TOP competitors?

Obviously we have our holes at 1B and C, but those are seemingly our only weaknesses, I mean other competitive teams can't be perfect.

Also, with us having an incredible 5 man rotation, shouldn't we have a better Catcher more then anything? I mean if we want our pitchers to perform, we need a catcher who knows what pitch to call for and when to call for it.

Unfortunately I don't see JPA moved or our C position improved. I can, however see us improving at 1B.

Cautiously optimistic. Hate what we gave up in this deal but love what we have done this offseason.

2 former batting champs, a Cy Young winner, another top of the rotation pitcher, a known innings eater with 2 no hitters to his credit and maybe the best bench player in the game.
