Does trading Rasmus + Lind with Gose taking over save enough money to get anybody worthwhile to fill a position of need?

Depends who is available vs how other GM's value Rasmus. For it to work there would need to be a team with a younger 1B with potential looking for a younger CF/OF with potential.

man that additional catcher we took in the trade has horrible numbers.

The numbers are brutal. Apparently he's good behind the plate though.

I think it essentially means AA never wants JPA to ever, ever catch Dickey

My thoughts exactly.

I've been very high on TDA, and higher on Syndergaard, but if AA thought we were ready, Im on board with him. Still a lot to give up though. If you look at the core, it's all locked up for the next 3 years.

That being said, our farm system is still pretty sweet.

Agreed we still have high potential guys.

Pitchers:

Aaron Sanchez, Roberto Osuna, Daniel Norris, Adonys Cardona, Matt Smoral, Marcus Stroman, John Stilson, & Tyler Gonzales, Sean Nolin, Chase DeJong.

Sanchez, Osuna, & Norris are projected high ceiling guys.

Batters:

Anthony Gose, DJ Davis, Anthony Alford, Matt Dean, AJ Jimenez, Dwight Smith Jr.

I do think we need to improve our positional players in the minors but imo the pitching will be fine.

Since im pretty much over the deal now, and im feeling normal, im just going to ask about the draft.

Who do you think the Jays draft? Im really hoping Bryant falls to us, but I think he ends up in Boston.

One of Clint Frazier (OF), Reese McGuire (catcher) or Colin Moran (third).

edit: accidentally wrote pitcher.

Too hard to tell. Baseball teams don't always draft BPA so it would be impossible to know who could fall to us at 10th.
Sign-ability, cost and team need have too much effect on how teams pick.

Its not impossible but JPA has always had a similar hitting style even through the minors.. Where as Lind has shown alot more than he did the last couple years.

In his 2nd season in Vegas when he won the MVP working with Motola he put up a line of .301/.359/.626/.986

I don't see any situation in which Bryant gets past the Red Sox

That's a pretty sick crop of pitchers

Any examples other than Molina?

You could be right though, he could have sold high on Syndergaard. AA could have a gut feeling he won't develop a 3rd pitch

Zach Stewart. Stewart was our top prospect not more than a few years ago. Those are really the only 2 big name prospects we've traded (Not counting the ones that happened in the last month).

Chances are at least 1 of the 4 big ones we traded (Nicolino, Marisnick, D'Arnaud, Syndergaard), probably two, will be good players but odds are at least one will fall apart, possibly more.

He dealt Stewart for EJax and landed Rasmus.

Woj was impressive in AA for the 'stros when we traded him for Happ. Perez continued his success with the Astros too, Comer struggled in his two starts.

edit: Musgrove struggled too, they didn't even put him in the rotation for the APP team.

I don't think there's many examples we can go through though. We'll have to see next year how the prospects we traded develop in Houston, Miami and New York.

This is the third time this off-season that this meme comes out (Marlins trade, Melky, Dickey). And there is nothing else to say as a tortured long-time Toronto sports fan who was too young to appreciate the first 2 Jays WS titles than this...

Since the trade I just checked in on the jays top 20 prospects from their home page and Sam Dyson is now number 19. Yeesh

any chance AA has one more ace up his sleeve?

How much would LaRoche or Reynolds cost us? I am speculating but its got to look pretty exciting from a free-agent standpoint to consider playing in TO now....

Thoughts?

Plus factor in 2011 IFA Alberto Tirado and 2012 IFA Franklin Baretto

Umm, off the top of my head

Michael Taylor
Brett Wallace
Zach Stewart
Nestor Molina
Travis Snider

None of those guys seem to be anything special, and it doesnt look like they will be in the future either.

I think it's pretty safe to say he's done. Unless someone comes calling for Rasmus. Even then I'm not sure what he'd be able to do or want to do. We will not be signing LaRoche. There's a reason he keeps making trades instead of signing free agents. Reynolds I believe has already signed and he's not anything you should target anyway.
