Honestly, prior to this trade I looked at our rotation vs. the Angels, Tigers, Nats and Giants and said "I don't know if we're good enough".

After this move, we are unquestionably good enough. We didn't just add another #3 or 4 guy readily available on the FA market for an ungodly amount of money, we added a top 10 pitcher in the league who would be the ace of our staff and the ace on nearly every team in the majors.

I didn't want to look back 5 years from now when JB retires and go "damn we spent a hell of a lot of money and still weren't able to deliver a WS or even a deep playoff run... if only". Once that happens you're not really going to look at TDA and Sydnergaard and go "gee really happy we're going to be an above average team for the next decade".

We are damn close now, its time to go all in.

True, good points.

We're going for it. If we win a World Series, who cares what we gae up? Get behind this team. If we don't win in the next 3-4 years, then you can complain.

Aww yiss.

This is a team this city absolutely needs to get behind. None of this 10k-13k attendance ********.

LET'S GO BLUE JAYS!

We havent had attendences that low since 2009 I believe. Last year we averaged around 25k per game. This year ill be disappointed if we dont average around 35k.

if we don't win in 3-4 years, AA will still be re-stocking the farm over that span anyway. We've got our current farm without even any top picks. Syndergaard was 18th overall, D'Arnaud 38th...

Ya but is ISO has never been higher than .115

And that's in pretty low levels. Maybe power develops later, and any extended period of time he's spent at any level his OBP has been near .350 (2010 at low A and 2011 at high A)...looks/sounds like a good contact hitter. Plus absolutely elite defense for his level...hopefully he pans out.

you can get power from lf, 1b, dh , etc. you need players that can defend in the important positions like catcher. give me an elite defensive catcher with little power over a power hitter with below average defensive skills every single time.

I said in my post that he pretty much has none. :P

Like I said in my original post, the biggest difference between d'Arnaud and Jiminez; d'Arnaud has a lot of power, A.J. has none.

I was thinking like "less power" or "marginal power". Not literally "no power" haha

Well it's weird. Looking at his slugging, it's like .425 which isn't bad, but his ISO is SO bad lol. The slugging is completely predicated on his ability to hit for contact.

Epic singles hitter.

Last years Jays were a pretty hot ticket, the hype in the city coming out of spring training is going to be absolutely nuts.

Not sure how I feel about the trade, but if it pushes the Jays into the playoffs and allows them to make a good run how can we complain?

These additions are perfect timing for me. I'm moving back to Toronto and starting a new job downtown in January, so I'm definitely going to get seasons or at least a flex pack. Really, really excited.

Exactly. And AA's got a 10th overall pick in hand etc. Lots of time to build the pool back up.

Imagine if 3 years from now Synder/Sanchez/Osuna etc. all show they're capable major leaguers... and we need to trade one or more of them for a current ace. Now we've gotta find a cy young winner available, and then hope that were good enough the next year before all our major contracts expire.

Or even worse imagine if we hold off, hoping that these guys pan out and none or only 1 or 2 pan out. We're stuck on the dancefloor without a partner.

This was the time to make this move.

That's why I am fine with the deal if it goes through. You can't always be building for the future. At some point in time you have to go all in to give yourself the best chance of winning. The time is now.

Syndergaard 38, D'Arnaud 37.

Also...anybody know why a google search for Noah Syndergaard and the first hit is a Wikipedia article for Kevin Ahrens?

I may not be in the majority here... but I think Gose is more valuable than D'Arnaud to THIS team. TDA may be the better prospect, but it is close.

We've got way more question marks in the OF. Is Rasmus a potential all-star or run of the mill CF? How much longer will JB19 be able to play RF? How good is Melky and what happens after 2 years in LF? Also: How long can Jose Reyes be counted on to be a premier leadoff hitter?

Gose could be the answer to one or more of those questions as early as June or July. TDA is a great prospect at a premier position, but we already have a decent player at C... and we can expect JP to at the very least stay consisent with last season's performance for the next 4-5 years.

I'll never understand why people, despite being shown otherwise, continue to think that J.P. is "decent" or "at least average". He's not. He has been below-average, to this point, for a major league starting catcher. You can argue that he could improve, and become at least an average catcher (something no one can prove or deny), but if you think that J.P. will perform at the level he did last year for the next four or five years (taken from your post), you're essentially saying that the Jays will be fielding a below-average catcher for the next four or five year (assuming he's not replaced). I'm not sure about you, but I'm not okay with that. Luckily we have Jiminez still if d'Arnaud is traded.

R.A. Dickey missing a ligament in his elbow. Anyone know if that's gonna be a problem for him at all?

We traded future hall of famer Jeff Kent for Cone back in 92 and won the world series. Unfortunately the moves we made caused us to be irrelevant for 18 years after 93

Syndergaard 38, D'Arnaud 37.

I googled Syndergaard and RA Dickey's baseball-reference page came up 2nd for some reason and I wasnt looking...RA was 18th apparently lol

Maybe you clicked on his page once and the page contains a syndergaard keyword? For me his full name yeilds jaysprospects.com first.

One of the reasons I saw that I agree with about this trade was that the Jays have a window to compete here. TDA would probably have been able to fit in that window but the other 2 wouldnt have. We need to go all in or bust.

A world series > the results of our traded away prospects. Simple as that.
