I'm happy we acquired Dickey he's one of the best picthers in the league, but you can't ignore that fact that he is 38. Sure, he's a knuckleball picther and lets say he picthes until he's 43. Thats 5 years of baseball left in him that may or not taper off talent-wise.
David Price is 27 years old. Lets say he pitches till he's 38 years old. Thats 11 more years of service. They are just as good as each other, but I'd rather have the guy that I can have for another 10 or so years than the guy who can pitch for another 5.

Good God man, we're not getting Price.

I'm taking it year by year with this team. In the mean time we will draft and develop as we always do, AA knows what he's doing. I'm going to sit back and hopefully watch us contend for the division.

GM's don't negotiate over how old a player is. Whether he's 38, 28, 58, or 108 he's CY Young Award winner. That has extreme value in a trade. Whoever was going to trade for him would've paid through the ass to get him. I am glad it was us because for once we're not wondering how good a player will be 3-5 years down the line or how good our team will be when so and so is ready. About freakin time this organization started contending again. I love this trade. Our rotation is so sick!

The bolded is most likely right. The question is whether it's wise to give that value in a trade. I'm unequivocally on the side that says, based on the rumoured value, it's absolutely not wise.

SO basically your judge of talent is superior to that of AA's? Just say it, you're a baseball GM trapped in another man's job.

No I'm saying your judgement of players is flawed if you're going by your own opinion rather than "regurgitated" information from the web. (ie scouts)

My God man. He's saying that he's following the list that AN ACTUAL BASEBALL SCOUT made up, not one he's making up. You're the one making up your own list, maybe you should be the GM eh?

Gose is no longer a prospect, and you really need to learn a little bit about prospects before you comment on their rankings or worth.

If by "learn" you mean reference another website's analysis I think you need to understand a thing or two about knowledge before lecturing another.

Anyways, I digress.

NEWSFLASH: Bluejays aquire reigning CY Young winner - fans pissed cause they gave away players who are going to be awesome in 4 years time.

Good night.

Value wise it's not smart, but I can understand why AA did it and where this team is trying to go with this move. Let's enjoy it. People need to relax a bit on the prospects and enjoy a hopefully very exciting and contending team.

I hope some other team hires you as their GM tbh

The amount of negativity in this thread is mind blowing. The Jays are finally a world series contending team and you guys still complain....only in Toronto. Not every deal AA does can be a complete steal, sometimes you have to give to get, especially in a market with basically no available top end arms. My god, can't people just be happy that we'll most likely be watching meaningful baseball games for the first time in 20 years??

On the flip side, why is RA Dickey all of the sudden the piece that pushes us into meaningful baseball territory? Pretty sure people were confident a week ago that we'd be in a pennant race into September.

Gose will be in AAA, everyone my god stop debating senseless crap, TDA was our top ranked prospect (however a lot of people have gose ahead of him) and noah was #3 and possibly the best of the lansing 3.

edit: and gose would probably be ranked #1 if he was still a "prospect"

I'm just stating my opinion and having a civil-mannered discussion. Obviously we're not getting Price because we just got Dickey. I'm just trying to have a debate unlike you, who is just trying to pick fights.

There is nothing to debate though. You are taking a fanciful idea and making it a real option that the Jays could have done. Price was not an option so why discuss him?

Just the thought of meaningful September games is going to be awesome, let alone actually making the playoffs lol. I've been a fan of this trade from the beginning, the deal is done. Time for people to just suck it up accept it and try to enjoy the ride because this team is going to be one hell of an exciting time in this city of losers. (Except for the Argos ;) )

I'm surprised at how many people here are acting like this deal is going to happen.

Personally I still think there's a very good chance this deal breaks down...

If there's ever been a real deal in place in the first place. :skeptic: :naughty:

Remember the old line: if an AA trade rumor is presented in the media, it's false.

Complaining about complaining. We're at the nexus of the universe. :sarcasm:

More traffic on the forum, comes with it's positives and negatives. I don't mind solid constructive debates but when someone is incorrect, I try to educate. Maybe I was a bit too snarky myself, for that I'm sorry. Just trying to help.

Anyone know when Flex packs become available?

Agreed, especially the stupid "why did we give up so much for a 38-year old." comments. It's like people just completely ignore the fact that he just won a CY Young award LOL. It's amazing really.

CY Young Award = Value = Team leverage

Everyone understands why the Mets are asking the moon for Dickey. And everyone also understands that Dickey would be a terrific addition to this roster.

Some - and I count myself among them - think the team was plenty strong enough to contend for the division as it was following the Marlins and Melky adds, so I don't see why it makes sense to pay absolute top dollar right now for a front-of-the-rotation arm.

They could have waited for the first couple of months to see how well this new nucleus competed, and how their pitching staff was settling in, then made a mid-season deal to fill where required. It just seems a tad excessive to pay top dollar right now, when there will other teams selling assets during the year - and probably for better prices than what the Jays are rumoured to be paying.

Anthopolous has earned more than a few benefits of the doubt, and of course we don't know what the actual deal is or how Toronto values the various pieces involved. But the timing seems a tad precipitous.

Who are you to say that Price was not an option? Do you have inside info that no one else here does? The points that I made lead to the idea that Price may have been available in the right deal. You are just repeatedly stating that he isnt available with no basis whatsoever.

Somehow I don't think actual GM's troll Twitter all day waiting for Keith Law to tell them whether or not they should trade a specific prospect.

We dont even know if this team is going to play good. Its one thing to be good on paper, but its another to be good on the field. Just remember when Boston went out and signed Lackey and Crawford and got Gonzalez, yet they didnt even make the playoffs.
