Complaining about complaining. We're at the nexus of the universe. :sarcasm:

More traffic on the forum, comes with it's positives and negatives. I don't mind solid constructive debates but when someone is incorrect, I try to educate. Maybe I was a bit too snarky myself, for that I'm sorry. Just trying to help.

Anyone know when Flex packs become available?
They're already available. Ordered mine a few days ago.

Man is it ever guna be a loooong 3 months :P

I'm going to Florida March 3-21. Definitely getting my tickets to go to the March 8th game against the Braves! The more I think of this team the more pumped I am.

Awesome. I usually get a 500lvl 15 gm flex pack every year. Obviously with a bunch of other games sprinkled in. I just can't rationalize getting the 40 though.

Did The Star have that 90+ game (might not be accurate) discount package again this year. I keep hearing about it, but I'm always late to the action.

Everyone understands why the Mets are asking the moon for Dickey. And everyone also understands that Dickey would be a terrific addition to this roster.

Some - and I count myself among them - think the team was plenty strong enough to contend for the division as it was following the Marlins and Melky adds, so I don't see why it makes sense to pay absolute top dollar right now for a front-of-the-rotation arm.

They could have waited for the first couple of months to see how well this new nucleus competed, and how their pitching staff was settling in, then made a mid-season deal to fill where required. It just seems a tad excessive to pay top dollar right now, when there will other teams selling assets during the year - and probably for better prices than what the Jays are rumoured to be paying.

Anthopolous has earned more than a few benefits of the doubt, and of course we don't know what the actual deal is or how Toronto values the various pieces involved. But the timing seems a tad precipitous.
Thing is though, we have 2 starters who are injury prone and another who sucked last year. Another is a long reliever. This allows us to move Happ to the Pen where he belongs and Dickey can go deep in games, having less stress on the bullpen. This move helps us more than 1 way

I'm happy we acquired Dickey he's one of the best picthers in the league, but you can't ignore that fact that he is 38. Sure, he's a knuckleball picther and lets say he picthes until he's 43. Thats 5 years of baseball left in him that may or not taper off talent-wise.
David Price is 27 years old. Lets say he pitches till he's 38 years old. Thats 11 more years of service. They are just as good as each other, but I'd rather have the guy that I can have for another 10 or so years than the guy who can pitch for another 5.

One differentiator, if the rumoured asking price is true, is that we can conceivably pay Dickey an AAV of $10 million, whereas Price has a decent shot of becoming the highest-paid pitcher in history when he hits the market.

How long do people realistically figure Dickey can SP for? As a knuckler I assume he can go for another 4 ish years?

I'm surprised at how many people here are acting like this deal is going to happen.

What are we supposed to do? Say that it's not?

They have until Tuesday at 1 P.M. to come up with an extension for Dickey, so there's a large chance that the deal could very well happen.

Huge price to pay but we just acquired the best pitcher in the game.

**** his age. Aa wants to win now and we have a good system which allows us to ove kids for proven talent

Proven talent over question marks allllllll day

Woot

Happ isn't a long reliever, he's a starter. Putting him into the pen shows a good sign of depth though.

I wouldn't say he's "the best" but he's a top tier for sure

Granted, they needed another arm to start the year, but it didn't have to be the very best arm at the most exorbitant price to accrue those benefits. Don't get me wrong, I love what the addition of Dickey does to this rotation, I'm just not sure I love it more than, say, signing Edwin Jackson and keeping two stud prospects, or trading JPA and a middling prospect for a swingman.

Not sure. This is my first time getting a flex pack. Just got a 10 game one through the site.

Gose will be in AAA, everyone my god stop debating senseless crap, TDA was our top ranked prospect (however a lot of people have gose ahead of him) and noah was #3 and possibly the best of the lansing 3.

edit: and gose would probably be ranked #1 if he was still a "prospect"

There was one somewhat notable "scout" who ranked Gose above d'Arnaud last year, and now you think Gose would be considered the #1 prospect if he were still a prospect? Give me a ****ing break. The vast majority of scouts preferred d'Arnaud to Gose last year, and they would most definitely rank him higher this year.

I'm pretty sure it's already been posted awhile ago, but...

You get no where in sports if you aren't willing to make tremendous gambles. As you guys know, I'm a Leafs fan, obviously, and in addition, I'm also a Jays, Eagles and Raptors fan, and I for one am tired of seeing my teams disappoint time and again. So far, the Jays have made some HIGHLY bold moves, and at this point, you might as well load up. AA has a good enough track record to give him the benefit of the doubt when trading for anyone.

I know it's a high price, but we have no idea what TDA or Syndergaard will amount to. I know as Leaf fans we are reminded of the Kessel deal a lot, and that might happen, where the assets we give up have success. However, so long as Dickey plays well here (And I hope he does, and I'm about 90 percent sure he will), then we get a good end of the deal.

Just remember something. If we do end up getting Dickey, our rotation right now looks absolutely sick.

Morrow
Dickey
Johnson
Buerhle
Romero

Change the first 4 if you wish, and also remember that Ricky took the mound last year opening day. AA has made moves to make us a winner, and while we may not like giving up a lot of prospects in order to do it, let's just try to look at the positives. We're a great team, and have a shot at the World Series with the talent we have.

Don't get too worried about the mystery box.

EDIT: TL;DR? A summation of the positive aspects of the Dickey trade.

I'm surprised at how many people here are acting like this deal is going to happen.

Personally I still think there's a very good chance this deal breaks down...

If there's ever been a real deal in place in the first place. :skeptic: :naughty:

Remember the old line: if an AA trade rumor is presented in the media, it's false.

Eh, this one is past the rumour point. I'll buy it for now.

Did The Star have that 90+ game (might not be accurate) discount package again this year. I keep hearing about it, but I'm always late to the action.

Its being offered in January, but only to people who had it last year and a max of 2 per person. I heard there's a waiting list but its already 500+ people.

True, but its not as if we can't afford that. As i referenced in one of my other posts, Beeston and Anthopolous have stated that payroll can be raised to 150M if needed.

Great article by Rosenthal.

I especially love this part of it "The Jays, like the Royals, are going for it — no more waiting, no more playing to finish third, no more overvaluing prospects. The time is now."

Good read, thanks for that.

Well I guess I'll be #501 lol. I just have to grab one of these. Could save me alot of money on Jays games. Not that they're expensive as is. I love my $15 nose bleeds.

Oh I agree. If I had it my way, we would have signed Greinke to a monster deal (since its not my money lol) and packaged Syn, JP, Lind and Gose for a DH hitter.

But hey, beggers can't be choosers. What an offseason!

I've been away for a while, have any other names leaked for sure? And by that I mean not the New York Post People's information?

I hear it's Dickey, Thole, Prospect for D'Arnaud, Syndergaard, Buck, Prospect but it's only from the ny post guys, anyone else saying anything for sure?
