And we can help them rebuild

I agree. My point I have trying to make is, it is different to play on a team that is expected to win. The Jays do not have a lot of playoff experience. It is hard to go from playing on a crappy team, to being in the playoffs.

with all the new faces it's not like everyone was just on a crappy team and now suddenly they're expected to perform

Who wasn't?

reyes, beuhrle, and cabrera have all been in the playoffs before, for what it's worth.

but i still dont think it means much at all, it's just an excuse. the next excuse after a player not having playoff experience is that they're a playoff choker.

And that value is a 2012 CY Young winner

I don't think anyone can seriously Dickey will be for sure contending for CY Young award in the future. We're not getting a Halladay who can be in that race every season. I expect him to be a good starter for the next year or two at least but its tough to say he will be competing for that again next year or so.

All on different teams though.

6/14 of our active roster (not including bullpen/bench), almost half our roster was overturned. we can't make predictions of some sort of ingrained losing attitude (like it's the Leafs)

Dickey's ERA the previous 2 seasons (before the Cy) with our current offense and he's right back in Cy talks again

According to a fangraphs article some one posted in the last thread 61% of top 10 hitting prospect go on to meet expectations.

According to them what Snider is in the minority.

61 percent still isn't great though.

It said go on to be good players not meet expectations I believe.

Me too ... I'd like to see the core of this team prove they can make the playoffs and show me that they're 1 big move from being over the top before dealing TDA and Gose

All of this just doesn't seem like an AA move to move.. Doesn't make sense

It seems forced, There isn't that young ace type guy available so it kinda seems like settling for Dickey. I can understand dealing your top 3 prospects for a 28 year old ace when your in the Jays position. I would do D'arnaud + Sanchez + Syndergard + Osuna for a pitcher like Felix but i'm hesitant to give up much more than D'arnaud alone for a 38 year old.

The only real difference last year was his strikeout numbers. His era in 2010 was similar

What if we get Davis too?

the way I see it, you get a 29/30 year old ace and realistically expect them to pitch for 5 years (age 34/35), or at the very least, most FA contracts are 3-5 years

Dickey is also expected to pitch for 4/5 more years because of his unique game

it's a wash.

Keep in mind, Melky Cabrera got a WS ring last season. He will be bringing that World Series experience with him. :sarcasm:

I agree

.. Too many years of being a Leaf fan and seeing them trade away young assets for older players has gotten me very skiddish on these kinds of moves

I'd only be ok with it if I was more confident in the consistency of the rest of the roster

But on the flip side, Leafs have been building up their prospect pool for a long time now

I definitely know what you mean here. I wouldn't be as worried about this deal if I already knew the rest of the team was going to work out.

If anyone's curious R.A Dickey was on the daily show and said because of his condition he could pitch till he is 70 or 80
