the way I see it, you get a 29/30 year old ace and realistically expect them to pitch for 5 years (age 34/35), or at the very least, most FA contracts are 3-5 years
Dickey is also expected to pitch for 4/5 more years because of his unique game
it's a wash.
I know this is continued to be said, but is there any proof for this? IIRC Dickey said so himself, but I don't think he's going to say "Oh year I'm gonna pitch till about 39 tops".
Giving up TDA for a 38 y/o Cy young pitcher who realistically 'figured' it out 3 years ago in the NL is risky imo.
