Hey, just give us Dickey without an extension and you can have JPA and something decent. I don't want TDA traded!

This times a billion.

I realize there is a window to win here but who's to say that TDA can't be apart of it? He would be better defensively than JPA and would probably provide better offense as well, all as a rookie. I just don't see the need to trade a potential franchise catcher. Can't we just go with our current pitching line up of Johnson - Buerhle - Morrow - Romero - Happ, along with a potential all star catcher for the future? We could see what we have here with the team before we go all in for the World series.

Is him missing a UCL a good thing for pitching? Martino said he won't need TJ because of it

When pitching the UCL is facing the plate. It adds stability to the connection of the Ulna and the humerus. If He was a power pitcher it would effect him BUT the knuckleball works better with LESS power. If anything, it might add some knuckle to his knuckler.

I don't want a guy that does not really want to be here.

Why wouldn't he want to go to Toronto? Does anyone really think he'd rather stay in NY and lose? The guy is 38 and just won the Cy Young. He's going to want two things: guaranteed money and a WS. The Jays can give him both. He's going to retire in about 4-5 years, why would he care where he goes?

He's right though. We always prefer to take the chance at developing a younger, homegrown talent rather than acquiring a proven player. I love what AA is doing right now. If he can get Davis, Dickey and a reliever from the Mets for D'Arnaud+ I will be absolutely thrilled. This team will have World Series potential.

The best thing about it is AA has built a starting core that are locked up for three years. If he can magically lock up Dickey and Johnson to extensions, then it's only Melky and Morrow who aren't signed until 2016. That's a pretty amazing feat to accomplish.

I agree with all that. And perhaps with all that he can be convinced. Btw doesnt he have a no trade clause or no movement clause?

So if we acquire Dickey and Davis our team could look like:

Pitching:

1. Dickey
2. Johnson
3. Morrow
4. Buerhle
5. Romero

Batting:

1. Reyes
2. Cabrera
3. Bautista
4. Encarnacion
5. Davis
6. Lawrie
7. Rasmus
8. Arencibia
9. Izturis

Bench: Bonifacio, Davis, Buck, Lind/Cooper

I like it.

It will either be a very exciting or disappointing few years.

Not a big baseball guy to be honest but Blue Jays have caught my interest. Would the Blue Jays seriously acquire Dickey without an extension and give up a top prospect?

TDA has to be part of a deal because the Mets won't trade a 5 WAR Cy Young award winning pitcher without him included.

If the Jays win the World Series in the next three years and Dickey was a major factor, believe me, you won't be missing TDA. If the Jays don't win within their window then you move on, but at least AA can say he did everything humanly possible to bring a championship back to Toronto.

I think that's the holdup, the fan 590 just said that the Mets will not allow a window to do an extension and they still want D'Arnaud..this thing isn't a guarantee thats for sure. It could fall through. The Jays are adamant about not giving up D'Arnaud without an extension.

It gets bigger than this too as Jays fans. If this offseason works, then the team will keep spending. If it doesn't, then this winter will always be referenced as an excuse not to spend or trade prospects.

My take

- Next year the Jays begin getting 25 million from the national TV deal MLB signed... Add this to TV revenue they get locally and if the team becomes as good as we expect... The stadium will be packed... The team is in a position where they can spend 160 million a year if they can field a winner.

- A winner is where UFA like to go to

- The Jays have tons of pitching still even after there moves and the 10th overall pick of this draft

- AA has shown to be active in international signings and still should continue to do so.

- There is no doubt in my mind AA will be able to build a top farm system once again behind a WS caliber team the next three years.

I'm conflicted on Dickey, on the one hand a team could always use another good pitcher. However even though he is a knuckleballer (which makes morrow/Johnson so much more effective the next day) he is old and in my opinion the risk of trading TDA is a little too high for me. However I have perhaps fallen into the "prospects will always turn out at peak expectations trap," no matter what next year will be fun.

I may be getting a little ahead of myself here, but I hope that if the Blue Jays can drum up enough support and attention to baseball in the next 3-5 years that it could help Canada get another MLB team. I think Montreal would love to have the Expos back and really appreciate the team more (kind of like Winnipeg in the NHL). If not Montreal then maybe Vancouver could support a team as well. Either way, I'd love to see the Jays success translate into another MLB team in Canada.

ESPN's Buster Olney says Josh Johnson has a chance to be next offseason's Zack Greinke. If the right-hander stays healthy in 2012, he'll be arguably the best starting pitcher on the free agent market at a time when the sport is flush with cash and big market teams like the Cubs and Rangers figure to be in a position to spend.

Great...

Statistically and positionally, Ike Davis would be a big hit for the Jays. Stats analysis shows this team offensively would be tops in RBI, tops in steals. (BY a massive margin) but their HR's are right around 10th in the MLB. Adding Davis and his 32HR at a left handed bat would keep the LR balance while adding a boost to the Power.

Davis brings the Jay's up to 8th.

Reyes
Cabrera
Bautista
Encarnacion
Davis
Arencibia
Rasmus
Lawrie
Bonifacio

This lineup will burn through a teams' LOOGY's and ROOGY's like nothing. R. Davis as the pinch runner, Izturis Utility infielder, Gose as the 4th outfielder. Cooper as the 1B

This is a complete team. If AA trades for Dickey and Davis and move Lind with prospects he can stop. Literally, he done.

Cash wise

Dickey: 4.750,000 asking for a 2/26 ex
Davis: 506,690,

Lind: 5,150,000

Short term the cash is a push. Long term it's a cash burn. But You can see the Jays become one of the dominate offenses in the MLB
