Can someone explain to me why we would give up JPA and Gose for a 38 year old pitcher who has only cracked double digit wins 2 twice in his career. Nevertheless a career ERA of nearly 4.00 and WHIP of 1.3

Well hopefully not Gose as well but since Dickey became a knucklebalelr he's been amazing, ace level.

Which is pretty much what I was just saying.

I wouldn't say his high end is 80... thats an insane number that even arguably the best player in baseball at the time wasn't able to break in 07.

Its kind of a combination of getting on base, being allowed to steal (or given a signal), and also being successful.

Gose no doubt has that last part down, and after a full season or two I'm sure he'd have a green light at any time. Its the getting on base part that he needs to develop.

But like everyone here has said... Gose even if he hits .250 and can put up an OBP of .300 is a well above average player given his legs, arm and glove.

That's just next season though. Gose is going to get a lot better offensively, and his baserunning will probably get better too. If Gose can steal 50 bases with a .220/.300 slash line, imagine what he can do when he's hitting .260+ with an OBP of over .350

Bo McKinnis, the agent for Dickey, told Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio that he's not working on an extension with any team, including the Blue Jays.

Maybe he's waiting until next winter to get a better deal as a FA?

That's the problem with Gose though. We havn't seen that he is capable of putting that together

Not sure how I feel about getting Dickey if he won't sign an extension here. What's the point in getting him then? Especially when giving up 2 young players to do so.

@JimBowdenESPNxm: Bo McKinnis agent for RADickey just told me that he is not working on an extension w BlueJays or anyone else that would be holding up a deal

And the fact that because he's a knuckleballer, he's pretty much right smack in the middle of his "prime".

Not crazy to think Dickey could be a good major league starter for another 4-5 years.

This gets repeated over and over but history doesn't really support this claim. Niekro was great after 38 but guys like Wakefield and Candiotti definitely were on the decline at that point.

Also Dickey throws a much harder Knuckler than most other pitchers no one really knows what kind of strain it puts on his arm.

Rasmus's defense is so ******* overrated.

He's still the superior player (unlucky the past two years), but I really don't get the hype over his D.

Rasmus' power and defense are more valuable to this team than Rajai Davis lite (which is what Gose is currently)

Rasmus' defence isn't even on par with Gose, let alone Rajai ****ing Davis'.

Like he's already MLB-ready defensively, only knock on him is his hitting tool.

Actually no!

Anthony Gose in 56 games last season put up a higher WAR then Davis in basically a full season.

Actually if Gose played a entire season he would have put up a WAR close to what Rasmus did.

I'm really getting tired of reading you guys put down Rasmus. I can't wait until he proves you wrong this season.

Really believe Toronto is strong frontrunner, but can report Texas has indicated will trade Olt and RHP Cody Buckel for Dickey.

Well, it was fun while it lasted

People said the same thing before last season.

"Rasmus is going to have a huge year and prove the haters wrong".
