What is the projected ceiling for a guy like Gose?

I wonder this because if he is indeed the guy that gets traded, what are the Jays going to lose out on? He does have unbelievable range in the outfield. His bat might not ever be there, but if he does put it together then what are the Jays expecting? .285 BA with an OBP of around .350? Stolen bases of around 40?

Highend stolen base's for Gose is probably 75-80.

Projected ceiling probably something like .270/.340./.430 with 60 stolen bases and gold glove defense.

@JonHeymanCBS: #mets believed to have trade they like for dickey. @Joelsherman1 speculates may be waiting on RA extension talk w/other team"

:naughty:

For the people talking "This cant be true because nothing ever leaks from AA".

AA can only control his side of the ledger. If the Mets GM go blabs something to some beat writer or the leak stuff AA really cant do a single thing about it and I doubt hes all the sudden going to say no to making a deal just because word got out. Apparently the Mets have a history of letting things leak easily also.

And its Jon Heyman telling us, he is pretty credible and has been at the front of breaking most transactiosn lately.

Sherman tweeted this:

Heard Dickey will not do extension with #bluejays which could be what is slowing talks with Tor #Mets

#orioles didn't seem in on Dickey talks this morn and #Rangers seemed lagging. #bluejays appear destination if contract hurdle solved #Mets

Gose stole 15 bases in about 1/4 of a full season worth of atbats while hitting only .233. He has 60+ base stealing potential. Add to that his D and one of the best outfield arms in the game.

Right now he is a better overall player than Rasmus IMO. But I would like to see him get some more time in AAA just to help his bat improve so he can be an even better player.

Yea I think that his bat still needs to come around.

I didn't think that he would have hit 65, but with all the optimism around here he could probably do that.

I really have hope for Rasmus still. I think that we got to see glimpses of hope that his game can go to that next level. He still hit 23 home runs and 75 rbi.

I'm going to be devastated if Gose is traded. I'm so high on that kid.

I'll be sad too but if Dickey comes with a extension I would be excited with having possibly the best rotation in the league.

Rasmus will likely be a better hitter than Gose, but based on his D, arm and speed Gose will be a more valuable player.

LOL woah back off a minute there.

Most sb's since 2000 was Jose Reyes with 78... thats when he was in his prime and was an on base machine.

If gose's bat develops into an elite level... then maybe you're looking at 70sb's.

He'll never break 50 with the bat he has now.

UPDATE: Joel Sherman reports that the Mets and Blue Jays are far along in trade talks for Dickey — and a deal could be close — but that things are being held up by Dickey’s refusal to agree to sign a contract extension with Toronto. Now, he needn’t sign off on the trade — he has no no-trade protection — but obviously the Jays would be far more willing to give up real value to the Mets if they can lock up Dickey for what will, presumably, be three years instead of just 2013.

Arencibia and gose were mentioned in dickey trade talk. Would be realistic package if that's it. #jays #mets

Make it Rasmus and JPA please.

He was on pace to break 50 last season hitting .233.

He was clocked stealing second in 3.24 seconds in a spring training game in 2011.

Not sure I buy that.

Gose just posted a OBP almost identical to Rajai Davis this season and Davis had 46 steals and Gose's OBP includes his dredfull first go around. If Gose played a full season next year for us I bet he would steal around 45-50 bags.

And you expect his bat to stay at a .220 bat? If Gose gets up to .270, which he can absoultely do, with an OBP similar to what his minors were like, he can absolutely get to 60-80 stolen bases.

He just needs to steal all the time, which he does. Last year he had 15 stolen bases with under 200 PA and an OBP of .303. Gose gets up to .270/.350, don't see why you 70 is out of the question. .270/.350 is above average, not elite.

Anyways, because Reyes was the last to do it, why does it mean it's such a shock anyone would suggest it? Gose has insane speed and he's a very intelligent base runner. There's quite a few of these type of players coming up, Billy Hamilton and of couse Mike Trout are two others.

Can someone explain to me why we would give up JPA and Gose for a 38 year old pitcher who has only cracked double digit wins 2 twice in his career. Nevertheless a career ERA of nearly 4.00 and WHIP of 1.3

I found this interesting so I thought I'd share...

Just got back from a 3 day business trip in Miami. Tried to engage with at least 20 people about the trade and nobody seemed to care or even know it had taken place. This includes a couple guys who were wearing Marlins hats. Both of those guys seemed disappointed when I told them that Reyes was now a Jay.

Which is pretty much what I was just saying.

I wouldn't say his high end is 80... thats an insane number that even arguably the best player in baseball at the time wasn't able to break in 07.

Its kind of a combination of getting on base, being allowed to steal (or given a signal), and also being successful.

Gose no doubt has that last part down, and after a full season or two I'm sure he'd have a green light at any time. Its the getting on base part that he needs to develop.

But like everyone here has said... Gose even if he hits .250 and can put up an OBP of .300 is a well above average player given his legs, arm and glove.

Uh because his career really started three seasons ago, in which he's been as good as David Price?
