Spring training is too long anyways so a 3 week spring is fine. But they still need time for the remaining free agents to sign then do physicals and join there teams for camp. Better not wait too long

I would normally agree but the players are not allowed in team facilities, meaning that the training site is closed.

Ryu tends to wear down as the season goes on. Pete Walker was on the Fan a couple of weeks ago and said they were going to have a different strategy of how they will handle his games/innings. Last year, he had an ERA of 5.48 on 4 days rest and 3.23 ERA on 5 days rest.

I expect he'll pitch less games/innings next year, which will improve his numbers in the games/innings that he does pitch, especially late into the season. I don't expect a true 6-man rotation or anything like that, but maybe they'll skip an occasional start of his on weeks where we didn't have an off-day.

Dude I've been saying this about him for the last 2 years, I'm not just basing this off his last season, he's way over rated he has what 1 good game out of 5, he's not a dominant pitcher he can't over power anyone hence R.A. Dickey comparison.

He's not on the trading block but I want him traded have for the last 2 seasons, no one wants a $20M pitcher who can't over power batters.
So you’ve been saying since the day he became a blue jay that he’s way overrated? Because this was his second year here. Last year he was 5 and 2 with a 2.69 era. His last year in la he was 14 and 5 with a 2.32 era. Obviously, those are surfaces numbers but what in there told you he was overrated. Most pitchers prefer to pitch to the same catcher just as an FYI

The way we build up starters in spring training I'm surprised more teams don't just start with a 6 man rotation (at least contending teams) for the first few months then settle into their top 5 at some point in the summer. Saves innings on the arm for later in the year and saves the bullpen as well by not having to yank guys so early as we've seen Montoyo do frequently.

So do you think they run out a guy like Ross Stripling to build up his innings and also reduce Ryu's? Or they rotate with Stripling and Pearson throughout the season.

No I never liked him, I felt he didn't throw hard enough and looks like I was right because this last season showed he is way overrated, and then he would only want to pitch to Jansen if you're good you should be able to pitch to anyone, so does that mean Jansen then has to go to the same team as Ryu when he's gone. The game has change, slow pitchers aren't as dominant as they used to be, they can get lucky some can be decent but their not dominant, plus he's 34 he's not getting any younger. You're probably one of those fans who were upset with management when they traded guys like EE and Donaldson as well, when it's time to move on it's time to move on.

So... just to clarify... the six years of his career where he was one of the best pitchers in the league were luck, and last year was the "real" Ryu?

It sounds like they want to acquire a 5th starter so both Pearson and Stripling could be viable candidates to take some starts from Ryu. I would guess they would start with Stripling as the 6th man and then Pearson in the minors to stretch him out as a starter again and to help maintain his new delivery which was supposed to reduce injury risk. But off course spring training will play a factor.

That has nothing to do with his own performance. What does Ryu putting up good numbers have to do with the Dodgers being dominant? The Dodgers players can't control his pitching performance which was good.

If you think all fielders are the same on all teams than you're clueless, I guess defence doesn't matter in your eyes in MLB

Blue Jays Discussion: - New players, new uniform, new thread

My original response today was Fisher sucks and he shouldn't be on this team anymore plain and simple, but because so many here got their feelings hurt and wanted to reply to me, the argument now is up to the trade and garbage for garbage. I've said it before and I'll say it again the trade was garbage from the beginning and it still is, why are people so defensive regarding it though? And why are people so offended by someone else saying he sucks and shouldn't be on the team, but they can say it about Drury instead.. Not saying you said that just others in general. Found it funny on here today though at how many here get so defensive over this issue, and just want to argue with someone because who the crap knows lol.

Now to what you asked, any pitching tbh, I would of been fine if it was a pitcher they were hoping to turn their game around just like they hoped for in Fisher, but instead of Fisher I wish it had been a pitcher, you can always go sign an outfield in the off season, finding decent depth pitching isn't as easy to acquire, you can find a lot of fringe type pitchers but legit ones not as easy.

I would of rather taken the gamble in hoping for a pitcher to turn it around then an outfielder. Now what they did after that and in the off season is acquired more pitching that has been a no brainer which they had to do so I've been supportive with them and doing that, still at the time of that trade they hadn't hence why it was a stupid trade in my mind from the beginning. Again yes they have acquired mostly pitching since, especially in the off season but besides Ryu the rest are all gambles in hoping they pan out there are no guarantees in any yet.

They also had the rights to Ben Revere last year a guy who imo is much better option then Fisher, but hey they love Fisher so much just can't let him go....

You thought everyone except Ryu is a gamble and them acquiring the pitching they did was a no brainer and you supported them doing that. Sounds like someone who had confidence in Ryu when he was acquired. Either that or someone who had no clue who Ryu was, heard we acquired a good pitcher and now changed his mind once he realized he doesn't throw heat.

Are you going to tell us you knew Gausman was a bad idea from the start in 2 years after he puts up ERAs of 2.7, and 4.3 the next 2 years?

Yeah I was under the impression he was good, until I saw him play

As a Jays fan I watch the AL not the NL.

You guys get so defensive with criticism here hence why I haven't posted here in a while, don't like wasting my time arguing back and forth with the posters here.

If you are going to say dumb things don't get your panties in a knot when you are challenged on it. The basis of your argument basically boils down to he throws soft and you think he is bad. You haven't been able to provide literally anything else of substance.

Ok, so just to try to understand again... you thought Ryu was good without having seen him because you didn't watch the Dodgers, then once you saw him play with the Jays and have one of the best seasons of any pitchers in the league, you realized he sucks. And then you decided his dominance in LA was due to their elite defense... even though you never watched him pitch in LA and therefore have no idea whether or not thats true.

That's a hell of an argument.

Lol people are open to criticism if it is presented in an intelligent way and backed up with facts.

You definitely didn’t do that here lol
