Seager is an excellent plan B if we can't get one of the 3B stars.

I love picking up hitters from pitcher-friendly parks, and Seattle is one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in the league. To wit - Seager is a career .721 OPS at home and .801 on the road (.573 vs .861 last year). Put him in a hitter-friendly park like Skydome, and it would not surprise me to see him OPS well over .850 with close to 40 dingers and solid defense.

For this same reason, I want us to stay the hell away from Story and Kikuchi.

I never understood why we would go after him. He gets hit hard and I am fairly sure that would make him a terrible fit for the Rogers Center.

That and the fact he is getting multi-year interest, which is not something the Jays should be doing for a guy who is going to be a #5 with guys like Pearson coming up and needing opportunities at some point in the near future.

Park factor in general is one area that is underrated when it comes to free agency - at least on this board. I mean it's not a coincidence that Semien went from a ~25 home run guy in Oakland to a 45 home run guy here. Donaldson had a similar transformation. And vice-versa for pitchers.

Give me pitchers coming over from Colorado or Milwakee all day, or hitters from Oakland and Seattle.

Personally I would like to see the Jays trade Ryu and Grichuk, use that money to grab some more pitching depth, but I don't know if many teams will want that contract of Ryu.

What about Biggio will he be going back to 2nd? That position needs to be figured out now without Semien of course.
If all you’re expecting to get out of that trade is more pitching depth, why not just keep Ryu and hopes he makes it back to being a cy young candidate he was just last year.

Why don’t folks like Seager?
LH bat, plays the right position, term and AAV seem like fits.
Could split time with Espinal or Smith, there’s still a path for Groshans and Martinez.

Just seems like half-assing a position when you have both money and assets to fill it with a premium player.

If they spend big on another pitcher it's not the worst idea as a stop-gap

It's about freeing up some money to get an infielder as well, or maybe you can trade those two get an infielder and use hopefully some money to get another arm FA, but Ryu is way overrated, he's R.A. Dickey all over again, yeah he gives you some innings but he's no where close to being dominant hence why it's hard to trade that contract.

Ya he had a bad year but for what he is getting paid, it’s worth it. I’d rather keep Ryu cause when he’s on he’s pretty good.

why is it hard trade his contract? Who says he’s even on the block. Is there a link to Toronto trying to trade him?

Dude I've been saying this about him for the last 2 years, I'm not just basing this off his last season, he's way over rated he has what 1 good game out of 5, he's not a dominant pitcher he can't over power anyone hence R.A. Dickey comparison.

He's not on the trading block but I want him traded have for the last 2 seasons, no one wants a $20M pitcher who can't over power batters.

Bad year Yes
Overated No

Is it expected to be a lengthy Lockout?
I wouldn't expect it to end any earlier then mid to late February. Whether it will actual impact the regular season? Complete unknown. I wouldn't be shocked if the owners are willing to eat into the season to get the deal they want so it essentially comes down to how much the players are willing to dig in.

Jeff Passan predicts that it will be 60-90 days and Spring Training should start on time or a week to 2 weeks late.

Thank you both.

There really won't be any pressure until Spring Training is starting. Hopefully they resolve it quickly then and no season is lost.

Yes and much better lineup around him too.

There’s more to pitching than just throwing heat.

Spring training is too long anyways so a 3 week spring is fine. But they still need time for the remaining free agents to sign then do physicals and join there teams for camp. Better not wait too long
