Let's give McCarron and Scherbak every opportunity to make the team to improve our RW depth, trade Plekanec and Markov for younger players and draft picks, find someway to package DD and PAP in deals involving late round picks.

Furthermore, focus on Reway more this summer, get him a nice workout regimen, he could be the solution our powerplay is looking for.

If Therrien is coach they will play where Ghetto/Thomas spent 90% of their time... on the 4th line. Let them have big minutes in Hamilton like Hudon did.

As far as Vermette is concerned, I don't think he's as bad as he's been with CHI, but I also don't think he's as good as he was in Arizona, he's somewhere in between. An average 2nd line center who's good at faceoffs and in his own end who can chip 50 pts. A slightly worse Plekanec.

He hasn't had 50 points since the 2009-2010 season (65 points). After that his highest point total was the year after 65, with 47.

That series could have went completely different with a bit of luck or more finish.

If there is one thing that will make this entire season worth it and hopefully the next few ones more entertaining is if they manage to re-sign Petry. That alone will satisfy me. Gilbert is fine and Emelin is decent as well. If one of these 2 would really prevent us from signing some big ufa or completing a trade, im sure Bergevin would figure something out.

Our defense is quite decent, worst case you bring up Beaulieu + Pateryn and give Markov a break. Sucks that Nygren isin't in the picture anymore but perhaps Tinordi will wake up or another rookie will show some flashes and get a chance.

Get rid of PAP bench/scratch/demote/trade/wave/pawn him in a shop etc.., let a young player get a chance.

We are still stuck with DD but he still has utility however coaching staff have to limit his ice time.

Make Plekanec understand that he's not only playing not to get scored on.

Prust... do I need to say more. He's the new Bourque, offensive blackhole, misses all open nets and good passes and is way to slow. He's been regressing in all aspects every year since he joined the team.

Get Weise motivated, perhaps playing with McCarron will wake up the dutch gretzky within himself.

PLAY ELLER ON THE PP MORE AND GIVE HIM BETTER LINE MATES ON 5V5 - if we want to get our money out of his salary it's gonna require some changes.

What else?

Therrien won't be fired and that's fine and understandable but can we get another PP coach or something?

Future is bright. We found our 4th line Right handed center.
We have 1/30 chance to re-sign Petry.
And we know Galchenyuk will play center next year. :P
PK gets the C

One can only hope that RDS will manage to get the coverage for next year's playoffs - can't stand that CBC commentary and TVA's Felix Seguin and Patrick Lalime.

if i'm not mistaken, TVA Sport are getting the next 11 years of playoffs lol

they need to get rid of Seguin and Lalime and pay WHATEVER IT TAKES for McGuire-Dubé

At the trade deadline your team lacks top 6 scoring, and 1 of the worse teams offensively and on the PP, what do you do? Get 2 4th line players for the worst team in the NHL. ******* You Beregevin.

Unfair. There was nothing to be had. MB could have bettered the Hawks offer and paid a first plus for Vermette, or maybe been more ahead of the game and traded that first for David Perron. Whee.

Would have probably taken our first to get Jagr to better the Florida offer since the 2nd was used on Petry. Beyond that it was guys like Winnik and Cole who were scarcely better than what was already on the roster.

Trading 7th rounders for guys like Flynn and Mitchell was fine. Blowing a first on Vermette would not.

The problem is exasperated with an underperforming Bustchenyuk on the wing.

Even concepts are EXASPERATED by Chucky's performance ? wow that's rough... ;) (sorry, the typo made me smile)

What we do this summer :

Free up money by trading replacable pieces, even for smallish returns. Parenteau and Emelin come to mind (people talk about ousting Gilbert but I like him at 2,8 being able to play on both sides, gives us flexibility)

Improving the center line is a must : my favored option is to commit to Galchenyuk as a center and trade Desharnais (I could envision him as a full-time LW, but I wouldn't trust that Therrien wouldn't switch'em back at the 1st drought, so I'd prefer him gone)

Need 1 more credible scoring threat on the wing to help Patch. Don't think Sherbak, Hudon or Ghetto will do the trick just yet. Trade ? UFA ? something needs to happen

I know it's a pipe dream but I'd love a new head coach. Preferably someone who studied at McGill and posesses an olympic gold medal. At the very least some new blood around Therrien is needed.

Something like that.

* Making that exercise, God I found myself jealous of TB line-up. Such a nice young skilled nucleus and pretty well balanced too. Plus a coach who's...hmmm let's say more sophisticated than ours.

Habs will probably have roughly around 13 millions left.

- Galchenyuk and Beaulieu need a new contract
- Around $5.5 millions off the books

- With Galchenyuk, we already have 11 forwards under contract
- With Beaulieu, we will have 5 defensemen under contract

Around $7.5millions left for 4 players.....we need to let go of some salary if we want to improve.

Emelin 4.1
Parenteau 4.0
Desharnais 3.5

$11.6 millions of bad investments

Need more adding a player to remove them all:

If Habs have a real number one center then:
Eller second 2-ways center
Pleck third more defensive center //see him less him big moment
remove DD

... most difficult part: get that number one center

did someone here followed Chicago this year? what happened to Sharp? is there a reason his stats are this bad compared to his usual stats?

You have to develop one yourself. Pretty much all the elite centers across the league were drafted and developed in house. If only the Habs' could do the same. Edmonton couldn't even trade for a number 2 center this year because they would have had to give up a piece that they didn't want to move. That's how difficult it is.

Well the team needs a good centre (preferably big) and some offence. Possible candidates:

Joe Thornton (San Jose might go a different direction, but I doubt he wants to come to Montreal)

Eric Staal (might be time for Canes to move on, only one year left on contract)

Ryan O'Reilly (one year left on contract, but not a go-to centre offensively)

Hopefully St Louis will be looking for some changes.

Both teams need somes moves.

Mtl top 6 is stale. Keep pacioretty, galchenyuk and gallagher. Need players in the top 6 who are tougher to play against

Pleks, DD both are pillows who season ends at game 82

At $5.5M Penalty Kill specialist is a dumb way of using your cap space in my opinion. Plekanec is a soft 3rd liner. At least Eller brings some physical presence.

He's also a 26g/60 pts 2nd line center.

Although that he had pretty bad playoffs, he still our most experience forwards in the playoffs and has the best PPG ratio in the playoffs. He was just overwhelmed in the first center role, we all know he's not a first center.

He's not a first center but he can be an excellent 2nd center behind a legit first center in a contender team.

Q played him quite a bit on the 4th line this year. He was even playing there when Kane went down early on until he was moved back up.

He's likely to be moved because of the Hawks cap crunch. Same with Bickell, Versteeg.

Sharp is the kind of guy that would come here and just score 15 goals. Habs need someone more dynamic.

what was a consistent 35 goal scorer doing on the 4th line though

We desperately need an upgrade at #1C. Defensively the team is fine and Price is God. It's upfront where they desperately need help.

Plekanec is fine as a 2nd line centre and Eller is great on the third line, but the team isn't going to get anywhere without a true #1C. They don't even have to be elite, just capable of 60 points while being genuinely hard to play against. Unlike DD, who's way too easy to shutdown.

Unfortunately, there's no one on the UFA market that fits that description, so either Galchenyuk needs to take the next step of Bergevin needs to pull off a big trade.
