I could see the Jays holding out hopes of signing one of the remaining guys to a high average, short term deal. The average would be ugly but keep flexibility to keep Bo and Vlad around.

Huh, please provide context?

According to the NY Times, the judge made a ruling that would prejudice any criminal charges to find Bauer not guilty (despite this not being a trial). Had the judge followed actual procedure, the judge should not have commented on matters outside the scope of this restraining order hearing.

How could they possibly be projected to have a top 10 offence when they have inarguably, unquestionably, the undisputed worst 5-9 in all of baseball.
You call a 5-9 of Varsho, Biggio, Kirk, IKF and Kiermaier good????

And the only reason why they're still projected to finish in a wild card spot is because they do have one of the best starting rotations in the league. At least on paper. And pitching means a lot in baseball. But it's like I said the other day, if their pitching tails off even the slightest then they're going nowhere.

And if the offense picks it up even the slightest they're going to win 90+. Meh.

He didn't deserve it IMO. two years of declined
Fwiw, mlbtr is spectacular with their arb projections and they had him slightly higher based on how the system works.

It is not a comment on his play; it is a system that says that Vlad could have made more

No that’s clearly not the only reason why they’re projected to finish as WC1. It literally projects them to finish in the top 10 for runs scored.

I can 100% guarantee you that they will not finish in the top 10 in runs scored. I will even put money on that.

Sure thing. But just so we’re clear, I didn’t say they will. I’m clarifying why they’re projected to finish as a WC1 since many like you might think it’s only because of pitching.

And that’s not a “if everyone hits their 90th percentile forecast” type of projection.

It's a dumb system if you ask me. He made $14M last year, now he gets $20M for being worse than even the year before.

In a vacuum sure, but how about 2021 when he hit 48 bombs and made even less?

Do you think he’d get less in an open market? If so, you’d be dreadfully wrong.

In 2021 he was pre-arb, so he didnt deserve anything beyond what he got as league minimum.

The performance that year got him an extra year of arbitration. So he should be happy nonetheless.

And he's not in the open market, so what he could or could have got is irrelevant.

He hit 48 HR and finished runner il in the MVP voting while making $600,000 in 2021. That's a bigger problem than arbitration.

Wait... why is it a systemic problem that a guy gets more than you think he should get through arbitration, but superstars making league minimum isn't a big deal because they "don't deserve" more?

They're both indications that the system sucks.

I think the system works fine, entry level, then you get 3 arb years which should be based on your performance, not your famous name.

So in your opinion he should have asked for the moon after his 2021 year? Why didn't he?

I think the system works well. He could have asked for more, he didnt, and then he slipped in performance in the next two years, and yet he got paid a lot more?

Played every home game that season in a minor league park. I've given up on him ever being that again.

He'll be a good not great player
