I don't think that our 5-9 hitters are a problem. I think our problem is that our entire roster, sans Bo and Vlad hopefully, are 5-9 hitters.

We needed 2 middle of the order bats this off-season and we didn't get them.

Agreed. If the team added another top bat then the lineup is really good. I am still hoping they do and will be somewhat surprised if they don't.

I would be willing to bet a lot that you don't know the 5-9 hitters on more than a couple teams in the league.
I do know quite a few. But even if I didn't, I know enough about those 5 to know that they are horrible.

Go ahead and evaluate every 5 to 9 in the league and get back to us then. I’d love to see your analysis.
I'm not going to waste my time. Because it's like I said. Just naming those 5 on the Jays is enough to convince me.

The Blue Jays have lost Merrifield (arguably played too much), Chapman and Belt and are hoping that internal improvements offsets that. While expecting better years is fine, if the reason that the guys didn't perform hasn't been resolved (cough, the baseballs, cough), then expecting more is stupid.

The big issue with the offseason is adding redundant pieces, though if Toronto has a starter not named IKF/Espinal/Biggio at 3B, IKF is actually a better backup candidate because he plays more positions and is an exceptional baserunner. Kiermeier would be fine if the Jays had a masher for LF, but Kier and Varsho is two glove first OF (which again is fine if the Jays had a basher to share LF).

Where everything falls apart is when the same backup is the starter somewhere else. If Babe is the 4th OF and the lefty masher, then he shouldn't also be the starting 2B (this problem is mitigated if one of Biggio/Espinal rebounds huge or if someone steals the 3B spot so that 2B is something like IKF/Biggio when it isn't Babe).

Yeah, I have a similar issue with all of the offseason additions (aside from Rodriguez): they're all fine moves, but they're all conditional on what else is done, and that "what else is done" hasn't happened yet.

IKF is fine as long as he's a defense-first utility guy and not expected to start too much at 3B.
Turner is fine as long as he's not the best offensive player they add.
Kiermaier is fine as long as there's a more offensive oriented OF added to the mix.

So far, IKF would have to start at 3B most days, Turner is the only good hitter they've added (and will mostly DH), and Kiermaier would have to play pretty much every day.

That's where a guy like Bellinger (or even Soler) would make this a really solid offseason. Either would be a good bat (and clearly better than Turner), could play some OF (taking the pressure off Kiermaier), and would force them to mix up the DH spot a bit more (moving Turner to 3B more and IKF into more of a utility role).

I think that would be a great situation for this team, but they need that one more move to make it happen. As of now they've added three guys who they need to do more than they're capable of.

To me Soler no longer makes sense unless they are confident that Turner can handle 3B 5 days a week.

The next move is likely a small one unfortunately, with names like Urshella and Kemp out there (yuck).

If budget is available, Bellinger is the clear cut best FA available to make this a successful offseason. Short of that they may need to go the trade route, but that’s tough given how the farm is viewed.

Can’t really disagree with the statement. Although I believe Bo was a 2nd rounder drafted by them

How could they possibly be projected to have a top 10 offence when they have inarguably, unquestionably, the undisputed worst 5-9 in all of baseball.
Because the top 4 are that good hahaha. What I don’t get is am I sleeping on the Yanks? Don’t get their high projections.

They’re pretty solid everywhere on the field, plus they have two of arguably the best bats in the league in Judge and Soto.

Their rotation is good, but that’s with expecting significant bounce back performances especially from someone like Rodon.

The major weak spot I’d say they have is relief pitching, but overall their ranking is pretty justified. I’m not entirely sure about their AAA depth though and if they can afford any of the likely injuries that will come with an aged core.

We have the worst management in sports. It’s just fail after fail after fail with everything. Hated them since day.
