Their best players for stretches were Schneider and Ernie Clement who quietly hit .380 with good defense for the 2023 jays.

Kirk and Manoah had all star seasons and then had off years. Moreno had a good year 1 and we will see. Everyone was used in trade, flamed out or was just a guy.

Not a good idea to trade all your prospects, but remember, prospects are just prospect and if you are trading a few for a legit star like Ramirez with control, you do it. Especially since it is a huge need at a position where there are only a few stars.

Can't depend on Manoah. Need insurance, and Ryu looked healthy. Also a hedge against poor performances by one of the top 4.

Remember there were rumblings of a 6 man rotation as Gausman and Ryu have much better stats with an extra day of rest.

But isn't this type of soft salary cap what many leafs fans want the NHL to follow?

Mlb needs a cap in the worst way. That ohtani deffered money is a joke. Players will never agree though. Paying a guy 2mil a year and then paying the rest long after he retire is circumventing the tax system whether the league says its legal or not.

Makes sense. Ohtani is a 1 of 1 in every sense. Not many (if any) players could reasonably defer that much, but he makes so much off the field, he's fine. Just a really smart move.
