He is fat, sorry if that offends anyone but it is the truth. Maybe he can play well fat but I think if he got into better shape he would be better.

He lost a well documented 32 lbs before the 2022 season and packed them back on this past year.

I got to agree with you, I really think as an organization we tolerate way too much when it comes to overweight players.

seriously and enough of this bullshit of fat shaming. You're a f***ing athlete, it is your JOB to be in shape and play well.

It's like me going to work and saying man - i'm just not good with microsoft office. Wonder how that's going to go for me. Smh.

Yeah Vlad's weight and fitness were not an issue at all last season.

Feels like there’s a loss of prestige for the Jays having been slightly used, seen to have been used in the aftermath, been the appropriate target to be used by CAA and Team Ohtani to be leverage, and Star chase these cryptic weird superstars similar to the Kawhi experience.

Only thing you can do now is build a winner, win everything with a chip on your shoulder and hope Ohtani has the same success with the Dodgers as the Angels.

The ask would be high but a perfect target for us.

None of this is unique to the Jays, though. This was a more high-profile one than normal, but it happens all the time, even with some of the historic, "prestigious" teams. Hell, the exact same thing played out last year with Judge and the Giants. The Yankees and Dodgers are always tossed into rumours to try to drive up the price.

The only thing that made them the appropriate target was that they were legitimately involved in discussions and willing to spend a ton of money to make it happen.

He would be faster if he was in better shape, but by far his biggest issue on the bases was making terrible decisions.

He would be faster if he didn't play hurt. It's very clear that he played through an injury that he should have rested.

Jeff Blair mentioned a bunch of TV deals have gone in the sewer as Bally Sports is bankrupt and teams like the Rangers, Guardians and Twins who were expecting hundreds of millions of dollar coming in for their tv rights, are no longer expected to receive it.

This may have been a big reason as to why the Rangers backed out of Ohtani so early.

When bringing this up, Blair said this could change the approach for the affected teams with a focus on Cleveland and Jose Ramirez. Cleveland signed a deal through 2027 and at the moment they are not going to receive any money in 2024 to 2027. That is a huge hit. A team that normally doesnt spend, no longer has hundreds of millions of dollars coming in which could have been a reason why they signed Jose Ramirez to an extension.

With that said, Blair speculates that teams like the Twins and Guardians will need to offload salary. Moreso the Guardians and feels Ramirez could be available via trade again and the Jays will make a push having lost out on Ohtani and Soto.

Cleveland clears close to $300M in commitments and gets a blue chip prospect in Tiedemann and 4 other good young players.

Jays get a switch hitting 3B stud, a lefty hitting 2B who can slot in SS when Bo walks, a potential TORP in Bieber and a 4th OF in Straw. Jays would only need to get a LF.

Sign Votto to DH and Soler for LF.

Which is great, but incorrect.

Bieber is being actively shopped, but Ramirez is not.


If Cleveland avoids paying Bieber, they are down to 83M.

Along with the TV deals, MLB teams also receive extra money through revenue sharing. Each team pools 48% of the revenue they earn and the total amount is then split evenly (3.3% of the total) and given to each team. Teams receive more than $110 million through revenue sharing.

On top of that, they receive national TV money. This isn't a HAVE-TO situation. This is a greedy owner wants to to make more money situation.

- Dodgers were always the #1 destination for Ohtani and Jays had no shot as long as Dodgers were interested. Jays were only used for leverage, although he thinks if for some reason LA lost interest, he'd indeed be a Jay.

- Thinks Bellinger will get 7/181 and thinks the Jays should get him. Says the 2 bad years could be explained by his shoulder injuries and long covid over this time.

- Says Yelich isn't going anywhere due to his big contract and bad back. A bad back is just not something that completely goes away.

- Thinks the Jays should be in on Hader.

The Guardians are one of several teams who could have their offseason plans altered based on what Diamond Sports Group does to their TV contracts for 2024.

In June the same bankruptcy court ordered DSG to pay the Guardians, Twins, Rangers and Diamondbacks their full contracts for the 2023 season. The Guardians received $55 million, but they don’t know what the future holds even though their contract runs through 2027.

“I think it’s affecting the whole industry,” said Chris Antonetti, Guardians’ president of baseball operations, when asked the TV situation. “We don’t yet have enough information to make that determination. But as we see how things move over the balance of the winter, we’ll get more information.

Yes, that puts teams like the Guardians in a difficult position when it comes to deciding how much they’ll spend this winter. But Manfred said teams have a strong belief in the worth of their product.

“I think clubs in general believe in the inherent value of the content, and when you believe in the inherent value of the content, it may not be tomorrow, but you’re gonna monetize that content effectively,” he said. “And I think they will continue to make player decisions under the assumption that we will figure out a way to monetize the content.”

How that looks pertaining to the Guards’ opening day roster in 2024 is another question all together.

I don't think Cleveland would ever trade J-Ram. You don't trade that type of talent with the amount of money he makes. Dump guys like Bieber (who looks like he's one step away from falling off the cliff) first

Plus with the prospects they have in the system they're probably close enough where they can get back into contention before his age becomes a problem.
