Only player I consider on a 4-5 year deal is Chapman because of the need at 3B and the defense and Hoo Lee. Outside of that, I prefer a bunch of 1 year deals to change the complexion of the bottom of the order completely with new players.

Soler
JD Martinez
Justin Turner
Votto/Hoskins
Garver

Maybe Teo on a prove it 1 year deal. Save your money for maybe Soto or Bregman next year.

Agreed. I am not giving Bellinger a long term contract. Too risky.

Same. Some were happy to avoid his $17M salary last year on a one year deal. Think how bad a $150-200M+ 7-10+ year deal would look like after a year.

Give me 3-4 batters on 1 year deals worth $10-20M each to lengthen you lineup and core already of Bo, Springer, Vlad and Kirk. Bring in some more vets who know how to hit like a Turner, JD, Votto etc

If they pan out, great, if not then you have a lot of MLB ready guys;

Barger
Damiano
Orelvis
Schneider
Horwitz

Maybe Roden

Who can all learn from these guys in spring training.

White Sox are interesting. Getting Robert+Cease would be a solid plan "C". Manoah+Kirk package

Former ChiSox Giolito would be a interest roll of the dice on a 1 yr rebound deal too

Are there trade rumours surrounding Kepler? I'd be interested for sure, and he probably wouldn't cost much, but I don't see the Twins dealing him
Bret
8:28 Will the Twins trade both of Kepler & Polanco?
Mark P
8:29 Feels like close to a lock that one will be dealt, though I'm not sure about both. Minnesota needed every bit of their depth last season, so trading both guys might be risky, the payroll concerns notwithstanding

Ya might wanna learn that LA and TB are perennial contenders because of that.

At least up your BS game

Why am I not surprised you never heard of the world's biggest talent agency?

It's just a continuation of patterns.
Meh. You know nothing about sports. I know nothing about talent agencies. I think I came out ahead.

What patterns might that be BTW?

Blake Murphy brought up a good point. If you rank the top 10 position player WAR free agents, 3 were blue jays; Chapman, Kiermaier and Merrifield and 2 were former Jays: Teo and Gurriel.

Not a lot of opportunities to look different on the free agent market.

Minnesota needs pitching. Manoah to Minnesota for a hitter or hitters might make some sense.
The problem is, Kepler and Polanco are the guys they are rumoured to want to move. Both only have a year left and I think Manoah would be an overpay even for both.

Maybe it could work for Bowdin Francis and a prospect or something for one of them.

8:45 Needless to say, that Paul Hoynes report from earlier today has led to a lot of Naylor questions in the queue!
8:46 For two years of Naylor, Cleveland likely asks for (as is their pattern) at least one MLB-ready younger player, and at least one longer-term kind of prospect. It might seem wild to think of the Bucs moving Henry Davis so quickly, yet that's the kind of asks the Guardians would be making

Naylor would be interesting. If only we had a major league ready catching prospect to trade. :sarcasm:

Absolutely do not want Bellinger if he wants 10 years.

He's only a year removed from being one of the worst qualified hitters in baseball and the analytics suggest he might not have been as good as the stats say.

At that point see if a Teoscar reunion is in the cards or see what Lee is looking for even if I'm not super bullish on Korean players making the jump to MLB compared to Japan..

9:33 What is jung hoo lee's deal going to total?
Mark P
9:33 We had him at five years and $50MM, and i see no reason to suggest he might get less
I would take Lee at 10M over 5 years in a second. I can see him being something between a Steven Kwan and Ender Inciarte.

I liked Kepler a lot as a buy-low candidate last year, and he would probably still be pretty cheap to acquire after a strong 2023. He's a good player, but one year at $10 million doesn't leave a ton of surplus value... probably something like Teoscar last year.
