Yes butIt’s not just marketability but also an economic impact for the city. From tourism to job market (Japanese journalists) the City of Los Angeles managed to retain a boom. It might also push approval for the gondola access to Dodger stadium.
No optout in ohtani deal.
I won’t be happy with anything less than trading for Trout.

The attempt at signing Ohtani is the acquisition. Watch how often management and their media shills mention it until April.I won’t be happy with anything less than trading for Trout.

Anyone see the issue with this? LOLSo many f***ing snowflakes in here. If there's anything worse than people complaining, it's the holier than thou idiots constantly complaining about complaining. Stop post-policing people because you can't handle negative emotions. Go light a lavender candle and see a serenity guru.
He's 29 and won't be 30 until next summer.I legit think the Jay's mightve dodged a bullet here. He's 30 years old already and coming off Tommy John surgery and won't be pitching this year. How confident are you that you'd get even 3 or 4 years of him being an elite pitcher and hitter?
Ohtani had incredible hitting numbers last year but that was by far his best season and his numbers have fluctuated quite a bit throughout his career. It's possible that there could be seasons where the Dodgers are paying him 70 mil just to hit and put up an OPS of 870.
because that really matters? it's still a ridiculous contract. He's 29 and won't be 30 until next summer.
Ya. LA really f***ed up signing him.I legit think the Jay's mightve dodged a bullet here. He's 30 years old already and coming off Tommy John surgery and won't be pitching this year. How confident are you that you'd get even 3 or 4 years of him being an elite pitcher and hitter?

The contract numbers they were throwing around never made sense from a baseball perspective.I legit think the Jay's mightve dodged a bullet here. Tommy John could care less whether he's 29 1/2 or 30.He's 29 and won't be 30 until next summer.
I can't tell if this is parody or not.So many f***ing snowflakes in here. If there's anything worse than people complaining, it's the holier than thou idiots constantly complaining about complaining. If he's still pitching full-time by the end of the deal I'll be shocked.FFS $700 million is a huge steer clear. Imagine if he can't pitch again after his Tommy John surgery? That would be........hilarious!
It would mean the Dodgers will be paying $70 million/season to replace J D Martinez, who missed 49 games and still posted 33 HR and 103 RBI, along with a near .900 OPS.
All for $10 million/season.
He will start pitching in 2025. He will focus on batting next season until his elbow heals completely.FFS $700 million is a huge steer clear. Imagine if he can't pitch again after his Tommy John surgery? That would be........hilarious!

I agree. And I think that Ohtani is one of those true Generational players where even if he retires, he will still be extremely marketable like Beckham in football, Serena in Tennis, Jordan in Basketball and McGregor in MMA.I do think because of his marketability, the threshold of what is a "good deal" is for Ohtani is much, much different than your average big ticket signing like an Aaron Judge for example.
That number they gave him is ludicrous but there's a pretty good chance the Dodgers still profit off of it which i would say makes it a great deal since it's bringing them a better chance to win on and off the field.
