The issue with Blake is that he is just making safe moves throughout his time here. The only risky move he made was signing Kovy, but that wasn't much of a risk at all since we did not lose any assets. It will be interesting to see if he has the courage to make some risky moves that will put this team over the top. Of course, there is a downside to doing that, but not sure we can win a cup with just drafting and getting secondary players.

I agree but also you have to commend him for staying the course which is probably more riskier to his job as it takes a lot more time to develop a winner.

I think it would be easier to give up on Alex Turcotte (just an example) and trade him for a proven piece but you don't fully knowing the potential of Alex and maximizing your ROI on that trade could leave you short.

If this all pans out the way it should, this team will be super competitive in the coming years, and for many after.

And if that happens, Blake may be deemed the best GM in Kings history, ha. On the flipside, being the 'Prospect Pool Champions' MUST lead to bigger and better things or Blake will be deemed as one of the worst.

Yeah, i'd rather Blake stay the course and be patient. Rather than someone who trades everything, including future draft picks, away just to win now with Kopi/DD/etc. and make himself look good with immediate results (i.e., playoffs, but not a SC contender).

Agreed....the next move could be risky, in getting a top LHD or another top 6 forward. One that will cost 2 prospects and possibly #1 pick. Kind of like how DL started out by signing bodies; Handzus, Nagy, Stuart, etc and then when the time came to make some upgrade, dealt Visnovsky for Stoll and Greene...O'Sullivan for Williams and then Schenn + Simmonds for Richard...Johnson for Carter. The risky / costly one was Schenn + Simmonds.

Blake has added Danault and Arvidsson, to begin the upgrade phase, but the next move could be a player above their level. There are so many great prospects, the risk will be dealing perhaps 2 of them...or a top one, not named Byfield, Clarke, or ? I think Turcotte, Kaliyev, Kupari are all pretty close...and then there's rising star Chromiak....then Faber, Grans, Thomas, Helenius, Spence, Madden, Fagemo. It's truly an amazing prospect pool.
Either Blake parts with a few, to upgrade the team, or just plays it safe...hoping a Byfield or Chromiak is insanely good and is the piece, to make the team get to next level...but that's not the best gamble / path.
I hated losing Schenn and Simmonds, but the result was good. I'll hate to part with a Kaliyev or even Kupari, but if there's someone like Chychrun to be had, you have to do it. LHD at the age of 23 are about twice in a decade
available.

Some people are willing to sell their soul for the cup. In some cases, trading Jerome Iginla for Joe Nieuwendyk and watching the career he had with Calgary would haunt me longer after the joy of winning a cup goes.

That GTG was top ten of the most pathetic I've seen in 30+ years of fandom. Why do you not call your timeout there and gameplan?

Shit man, it's a jinx when you acknowledge the jinx thread!

I don't think any reverse jinx would work right now, this thread is too strong.

Not sure what's going on, but we are losing all of our whipping boys. At least we still have Maata.

Sports is the ultimate results oriented business, this is probably going to be it for these guys if they don't win and right now they are winning and staying in the race in a surprisingly competitive and good Pacific division.

Lets remember that they had a similar run last year before Lucy pulled away the football but this is much more impressive because they are doing it without Doughty and they are getting solid contributions from a bunch of guys, in particular Iafallo and Kempe seem to be possibly taking a step up another level. Expecting Iafallo to be point-per-game may not be realistic but if Iafallo can be a 60+ guy for the Kings and Kempe can get to around 50 the Kings may have enough offense if they keep playing this well defensively.

Everything looks a lot better if your goalies are playing well and you tighten things up a bit defensively.

Kings are 3-8 when giving up 30 or more shots this year. The three wins are during this streak, obviously, and include a SO win over St. Louis and last night's OT win. Goaltending was huge in both of those games (Quick was still good in that Blues game) and the other 30+ shot win was the Leafs game where Quick played well also but five goals wouldn't require it.

Kings are 4-0-1 when allowing fewer than 30 shots. Not sure I should even be saying that they are tightening up defensively but rather that it feels like they are on the attack more which is limiting opponent's possession time, leading to fewer shots.

Let's hope that those back-to-back Blues losses were a Doughty injury hangover and that what we are seeing now is going to be more of the play style we see out of them. 6-0-1 since coming back from the St. Louis ass kicking. Finishing this year as a .500 team would be a big step forward.

I completely thought this team lacked depth and a few key injuries would spell doom. I wasn't expecting guys to step up as they really haven't for the last few years, but guys like Bjornfot and Kupari have been fantastic overall. Kempe and Iafallo are taking some steps as well, it's great to see. I think they may just be confident enough to keep it up too.

so now what do we do

im not even mad at anyone in the organization right now

I swear if the Kings end up winning the cup and saving Blake’s bacon because of it, I’m gonna be pissed!

This is how pockets of Kings fans still view Rob Blake since 2001:

You can’t argue in good faith for regime change when the team is playing lights out. GM Rob’s credibility at this point is looking strong. I love to crap on the guy, but you have to credit results when they match the expectations communicated by management.
