You watch, Kupari is going to get Vilardi'd soon enough. For as long as TMc is the coach, it's going to happen again and again until the player's talent (Byfield?) is so overwhelming that even TMc can't ruin him with his shenanigans. Many of us were excited at the prospect of the top 2 lines being good 2-way lines because it opened up the possibility of an offense focused and deployed 3rd line at least. But that's not happening at all. The cast-offs get placed on the bottom six. There was an opportunity to weaponize that 3rd line, but now it's a purely checking line.

He had that one really bad turnover near the front of the net so that's probably all Tmac needed to 'Vilardi' him to the press box.

I don't blame TM at all, Kupari hasn't looked good outside of his first few games. He hemorrhages chances against and he's good for one or two bad turnovers a game. Other teams are wise to his speed now, they force him into no-man's land. I'm suprised he's still drawing into the lineup, to be honest. He's subpar at the dot, has terrible possession metrics, yet still has a high PDO. 2 ES points in 17 games is not good, he's producing like Matt Roy. If anything Kupari has gotten too much rope from TM.

He needs to take the experience of the NHL and go tune things up in Ontario. Same with Arty who has been struggling to finish and is starting to look lost again. Give them a couple of weeks with the Reign and give some other guys a look/experience.

Moore can't be sent down, obviously, but I'm not sure what's up with him. Looks like a different player. If I were TM, I'd have Grundstrom in over him while he sorts things out.

Well, someone is to blame at this point. Is it Blake or TMc or both? Is ownership saying make the playoffs this season or you're all fired? I think many of us would be fine with an 80+ point season if youth was being integrated. It's happening on the defense because it was forced to happen due to injury and those kids are stepping up even if they have bad games here and there. Now it needs to happen on the forward lines. The best development teams insert their top prospects with veteran talent.

The investment is in youth, the whole "earn it" thought process I'm not entirely on board with when TMc is the one putting these kids in positions to "earn" his trust. @Raccoon Jesus has re-hashed this a million times, but our vets who are actually skilled should be good enough to insulate our top prospects on a line with them. These young players should not be expected to carry a line or constantly be put in situations that doesn't exploit their skills. Look at Kupari now. He looked like an exciting player early on, folks saying he's replaced Vilardi as 3C etc. Now he's being turned into a grinder. Fantastic.
What if the reason why TM is making young players "earn it" is because there is added pressure on him to turn out a playoff team this season? TM might be given an ultimatum of having to put out the best roster he can, so playing a rookie might weaken the team. I'd rather see the team succeed with a bunch of veterans mixed with some rookies, than to see the team flounder with mostly young guys. I think that's the reason why Vilardi's been benched is because he just is not getting it done in any zone. I see Kupari and Kaliyev going down the same or similar road.

Prospects are supposed to be inserted into the lineup when they are excelling in the minors and a spot on the big club opens up for them. They're not to be out there to build your team around. I don't know. I just don't know what to say anymore. It's development and the whole idea behind it. It's a philosophy and it's a philosophy that the entire organization has to adopt. Why do some teams have no problem developing a forward when other teams struggle or develop defensemen moreso? We used to be really good at developing defensemen. Voynov, Doughty, and I don't know, but it's a specialty. The org needs to open their eyes and realize it takes time to develop and you can't just throw a bunch of new guys out there. That's when young guys tend to get injuries, when they're just thrown out there. Whatever.

Is it though? Really? Guess if Kempe is on it, it's the top line.

I was going by Brown-kopi-arvidsson / kempe-iafallo-danault

we could mix and match and rearrange as need be but still the idea that a team whose forwards playing 40 minutes a night are 30 years old is experiencing 'growing pains' is exactly the complaint

growing pains is when Kaliyev makes a turnover, not when brown stops skating and only throws a big hit because he's too slow to join the play and it comes back at him

I thought this was a funny quote from TMac prior to the Toronto game:

“If Sean plays, he’s likely to get some time on the power play, it’s what he does well,” McLellan added. “It makes no sense to bring him up and not give him that opportunity..."

Getting some Monday flashbacks.

What a dumb f***ing piece of shit. Nice self own, idiot.

My goldfish has a better memory and more self-awareness.

Now instead of the AZ game (and not missing the Stockton game) we get to throw him to the wolves with the worst dman since Randy Jones and then send him back and say 'he's not ready'

I think TM meant if Durzi does play, he will definitely see some power play during the game. I mean it's completely obvious that Todd compartmentalized his brain into playing and not playing, and if he does play, then this or that will happen, and if not then you don't have to worry about the this or that.

Right?

It is what he meant and I was poking fun, but really the statement in a bubble says something. I mean, we have almost no offense from the back end, Matt Roy is not a PP QB and Ollie Maatta sucks. If you're going to call up Durzi, you better damn well let the kid play to show what he's got else what's the point of calling him up twice in the last 3 days. In general, it makes no sense to bring him up and not give him an opportunity.

Yeah, that's what I meant by the lack of self awareness in the statement. It's not that outlandish of a reading to read it as a self own even though he's clearly referencing durzi 'in game'.

"it makes no sense to call him up and not give him that opportunity" indeed. Said the quiet part out loud.

Jeezus. I've never seen so many whining drama queens in my life. I'm half surprised we haven't seen some helicopter parenting (from Durzi's folks a la Caufield) complaining about their precious snowflake being treated so poorly.

I guess people forget Forbort's first game -- against defending cup champions Chicago in Chicago on a back to back. Sutter clearly put him in a perfect position to succeed.

What in the purple f*** is you even talking about?

Can you read?

Are you sure you can?

If you think saying Durzi, an offensive PP QB dman should play when called up to a team that lacks offense from the back end and has a lousy power play is being a drama queen and 'parenting' him, then I have my doubts that you can.

It seems when a team develops a player that they instill a complete game within that player at a minor level. It's harder for a player to learn the game at the NHL level especially when you're trying to make the playoffs, like Blake said 1.5 years ago. Blake doesn't know what he's doing. When it comes to him, it's the old boys club. The blind leading the blind. Blake and luc need to go. Keep tmac.
