There was absolutely something like that with Kovalchuk

Kovalchuk never said he flat out wanted to come to the Rangers and throughout various points in his career mentioned or alluded to coming home.

Kovalchuk throughout that whole saga kept telling everyone that he wanted to stay in Atlanta and that he and his family loved it there.

Been beaten to death already on the Rangers board. McKenzie also made mention last week, but where there's smoke...

Speculation on the Rangers board has primarily been...

JT Miller straight up.
Combo of JT Miller and Brady Skjei.
Zuccarello Straight Up.
Rick Nash Straight Up or some money retained.

All of the aforementioned are off to good starts.

Miller is on pace for his best season. He is also doing it from the Rangers 3rd line. Afforadble player, who is versatile. Played every F position so far. Has also been physical. Likely thier most tradeable asset. Personally, I think he should be off the table...but his name has been mentioned more then most.

Zucc is playing steady eddie again. New linemates this season. Has been solid. 5 points in 6 games.

Rookie season for Brady Skjei and he hasen't looked out of place at all. Size and speed. Has been solid, but is behind McDonagh and Staal on the depth chart. IMO far better player overall then Clendaning or Holden. Not saying much I guess.

Rick Nash has 2 goals on the season. He has looked really good so far though. Literally could have scored in every game. Ringing posts, goalies coming up big etc etc. Looks like he did a few seasons ago.

I was just gonna ask what would they have to trade, so thank you for posting this.

Shattenkirk with agreement to sign extension after expansion draft.

Rangers won't be trading for the value of an extended Shattenkirk. If the Rangers are trading for Shattenkirk they are giving up the value of a rental. Even then, the Rangers are unlikely to want to give up that much.

You are very welcome. Not sure how we are surviving without his huge 1 assist on the season

If Yandle was on the Rangers this season I can guarantee you would be singing a different tune but that's no surprise

But all he's doing is pointing out the facts...

- The Rangers are doing well.
- Yandle has one point.

Not that I didn't like Keith Yandle, I thought he played very well here, but if you think the Rangers aren't doing well without Yandle, you really need to take a step back and look at the numbers.

Any evidence to support Del Zotto is a bottom-pairing defender other than "I've seen him" or "I just know"?

He did have 2 stints in NY, he really wasn't that good. He didn't last in Nashville. That he found a home in Philly......is it that you think he is good or your defense is THAT bad?

I loathe the Flyers. Loathe. Them. That said, what you are spouting is revisionist history at best and factually incorrect at worst. MDZ had one stint with the Rangers. He was sent down to the minors to get a few games of work, and promptly got injured for the remainder of the season. He came back for his third year, filled in for an injured Marc Staal, and got Norris votes.

Literally, the ONLY season in which he didn't look like at least a 2nd pair guy was the season that AV had him. AV set out to destroy that kid in the media, on the ice. He succeeded. So you can babble about "two stints with the Rangers" and him "not being that good," but there are two things that are clearly obvious to most people:

1- Del Zotto had ONE bad season.
2- Re-signing Staal and letting AV torch MDZ's value was a huge mistake.

Edited to add: Unless the player going back in trade is Staal, MDZ doesn't make sense for the Rangers. We need someone to play top four on the right side, and MDZ is just not capable of doing that (and I think he'd retire before putting up with AV again. That freaking clown used to criticize him after games in which he DIDN'T even play).

Thank you for being rational in your answer and pretty much dead on!

I used to hear the greatest things about MDZ until he joined Nashville, which we can all agree was just awful for all involved. I was pleasantly surprised how much he rebounded in Philly. That's why hearing that he's a bottom-pairing D-man from (possibly) an NYR fan was astounding to me. I'm by no means in love with MDZ, but he has undeniable game still that is Top 4 easily.

And fair. If he doesn't fit with what you've got, he doesn't fit. Cest la vie my friend! We tried.

Is it possible for the Rangers to get the cap space to sign Shattenkirk in the offseason? How would they go about it if so?

Del Zotto wasnt very good in NY. I liked him though, he can skate and can actually create something but he was a turnover machine and made alot of defensive mistakes. He easily had/has top 4 potential, he might even be it now, i dont watch enough Philly games(maybe 10 each season) to really comment on his play the last couple of seasons, but he has looked decent when ive watched them.
He was called Del Zaster in NY by alot of the fans, he wasnt very good and us getting Klein in return was a steal.

Trade Nash(1 year left) for example with retention to clear cap space and get something decent/good for him in return.

Nash (7.8) + Klein (2.9) for Pouliot (4M), Fayne (3.625M) and EDM 1st '17, and then one of either the EDM or NYR 1sts plus McIlrath for Shattenkirk?

Kreider-Zibanejad-Zucc
Vesey-Stepan-Miller
Pouliot-Hayes-Grabner
Pirri-Jooris-Fast
Lindberg Hrivik

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Staal-Girardi
Holden-Skjei
Clendenning

Lundqvist
Raanata

=$2.9M in cap space with Fayne buried in the AHL.

No interest in Fayne or Pouliot.....
And i wanna get rid of Holden... Clendening is actually very good imo. Him and Staal should be glued together on the second pair. Staal really elevates his game when he plays with a guy that can move the puck like Clendening!

See I don't feel that is fair to DZ. Don't get me wrong, I remember the DelZaster name, but I chalked that up to fans being really harsh his last year.

He seems to have done well, statistically at least. NSH was hot garbage, but he's revitalized in Philly.

He was really bad for us by the time he left. It's good to see he's rebounded in Philly but he still hasn't lived up to the initial expectations for him, but how many players do.
