There's practically nothing they can do to address the need for a defenseman this year. All you can do is hope that someone steps up, because those brutal NMCs are doing a terrific job in reducing the possibilities. If the guy stepping up is one of Staal and Girardi, good for you. If it's someone else... not so good, but not bad either.

Staal looks to be the guy to step up. He looks much better than last year, albeit early. I think Gorton stockpiling forward depth this offseason has put them in a good place to trade a fwd or 2 for a dman at some point this season.

The Rangers have wanted Vatanen for a while. It's no secret.

The Rangers have liked Silfverberg for years as well.

The Rangers liked Brassard for a while, traded for him.

The Rangers liked Zibanejad for a while, traded for him.

Just saying

So they're going to somehow acquire Silfverberg and then trade him for Vatanen?

NYR is looking damn good... ill be curious what they give up to acquire a top dman. I need to look at NYR's future draft pick situation and salary cap situation in order to figure something good out

I haven't really educated myself as to what their cap situation looks like

NYR are stuck with some bad contracts on the back end that will get worse every year

Then you'll be right at the cap again. You have no RFAs looking at raises?

I looked it up zibanejad is an RFA looking at a massive raise if his season comes close to progressing at the way it is right now?

You also have some other minor RFAs. Pirri is a UFA and is playing great he keeps it up or at least puts in a solid season you're gonna just let him walk away? So with even getting rid of Nash it's seems kinda tough. The cap could go up but it seems like a lot of things need to happen for it to be possible.

Well, Murray is a pretty bad GM so he might just go for that!

Yeah he's the biggest concern but we'll see what happens with the cap next season and what the Rangers do to create some space.

Pirri will be a RFA

Thank you for being rational in your answer and pretty much dead on!

I used to hear the greatest things about MDZ until he joined Nashville, which we can all agree was just awful for all involved. I was pleasantly surprised how much he rebounded in Philly. That's why hearing that he's a bottom-pairing D-man from (possibly) an NYR fan was astounding to me. I'm by no means in love with MDZ, but he has undeniable game still that is Top 4 easily.

And fair. If he doesn't fit with what you've got, he doesn't fit. Cest la vie my friend! We tried.

Disagree. getting Klein back was an absolute steal for us. Even with Del Zotto rebounding, I make that deal 10/10 times. He would have never rejuvenated his career if he stayed in NY.

I'm happy for him. Glad he is in a good situation.

Land of no calls..
Yeah, I'm confused as well.

How is NYR going to accomplish this?

He wasn't terrible for us in terms of offense, but Klein was a much better fit for the team and it showed. Deal didn't work out too well for Nashville, since MDZ was crap there and is now in Philly. Rangers and Philly did well, Nashville didn't.
