Question regarding expansion......is Zib an RFA who does not need protection from expansion? If that is the case, Gorton really made a fantastic trade.

He's an RFA, but he needs to be protected. All players with more than 2 professional years must be protected or exposed.

This is incorrect, players that require protection must have a contract running beyond the 2017/18 season.

All expiring RFA's and UFA's are exempt from protection.

Just me thinking out loud but don't the NYR and Jets make good trading partners for Trouba?

I am not going to speculate on who is going back and forth but to me seems like it could be a landing spot for him.

Are you sure they are "exempt"? It doesn't say that here:

https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-expansion-draft-rules/c-281010592

It only says that teams are REQUIRED to expose1 D, 2 F and 1 G that are under contract for 17/18. I don't see where it says RFAs (or UFAs, but honestly, I don't see teams protecting UFAs anyhow) are exempt.

Las Vegas is free to negotiate with any RFA or UFA that isn't protected.

http://www.espn.com/blog/nhl/post/_...as-vegas-will-get-a-head-start-on-free-agency

the Vegas organization will have a 48-hour window ahead of the expansion draft in June to speak with and sign any pending unrestricted or restricted free agents whom the 30 teams left unprotected for the expansion draft.

They are not exempt from protection. They can be protected. If they are not, LV can negotiate with those players before the expansion draft. If they sign the player, that becomes their selection from that team.

Zibanejad will be protected, so it's a moot point.

Would a Seabrook plus Pokka/Forsling for Nash plus Vesey work for NYR?
Ny would need to retain a mil or so to balance out the salaries.
Hawks line up:
Vesey Toews Nash
Panarin Anisimov Kane

It would look bad on NY to trade a guy right after we signed him.

This is just awful for NYR.

NYR will get their RD this year. Trouba, Vatanen, HAmilton, shattenkirk etc 1 will be a ranger.. If shatty makes it to UFA he will be a ranger right after the expansion draft. That is 99 % sure. NYR doesn't really have an offensive superstar. They roll 3 high end 2nd lines at you. Their highest paid forward will be stepan after nash is moves. Everyone else will be around 5 mill and under. They will spend a lot of their cap on D and players on D that can generate offense. really going to be an interesting year and a half for this team and its front office. Miller, Zucc, Nash, Skjei are all bait for the D

I'm not sure why Vatanen shows up so much in NYR and Oilers threads anymore. While he was still an RFA sure, but now that he has his shiny new contract? Even if you overlook that trading him 8 games into his new contract is bad form, they made a big deal about his signing at the season ticket holder event and he's still one of the first they trot out for fan functions. He's signed long term on a sweetheart deal that's probably less than what it will take to retain Fowler and he shoots right. For all the fanfare about Montour possibly replacing him at one point, realistically you have to know that's not going to happen before Montour ever sets foot on NHL ice.

Never say never and all that, but it seems like one of the more unrealistic scenarios.

Hard NYR pass, not giving up Vesey, Seabrook is on the wrong side of 30, not retaining.....totally not interested at all. Nothing fits for us regarding Seabrook, how about Kane and Panarin......now you see how silly that proposal was?

no worries .. no attachment here.
I see this proposal as one that would work other than the length of Seab's deal.
Kane and Panarin for Nash and Vesey ... now that's funny!

The cost for Adam Larsson was Taylor Hall. Tanev is better than Adam Larsson

Don't think the Rangers are going to pay that price

The Rangers also don't have an imbecile like Chiarelli running their FO.

Wouldn't take Seabrook for free

He's so bad
