I think he does have decent value. He’s producing very well for his 2nd AHL season and he’s one of the youngest players of his draft class. Maybe could be the secondary piece in a Jiricek trade.

it's always hard to say what trade value someone holds since only the gms know. Decent value could mean a lot of things, I just think if you are trading him, it's for the same reason that scouts wouldn't recommend trading for him. But as a secondary piece that opens things up more and becomes much tougher, as his stats are very good and he's shown he's got impressive offensive skills, great hand to eye coordination so perhaps someone that thinks they can work with his style of play will be interested.

It’s the old adage:

He’s not good offensively so he must be good defensively

It's like an electrician who isn't good enough to be an electrician. If electricians are above carpenters in the construction level, so that not good enough electrician will be automaticly a good carpenter. That's the same logic. We took a bad offensive center and we automaticly thought he would be a good defensive center. Go back read the Dvorak thread at the time and 95% of posters here was thinking that, despite never saw him play on regular basis. Because you can't teach a player to be an offensive talent but you can take any shitty player and transform him into a Plekanec or Guy Carbonneau (or a Danault). And very easy. That is the board here, beleive me, no joke!

I like Marcotte but media guys who are linked to the team professionally won't bad mouth players.

That's true, but they also wont go out of their way to ""good mouth'' them if they dont really think what they're saying, doesn't mean he's right tho.

I find people are very hard on Roy around here, if Farrel had his numbers everyone would be up in arms for him to be called up.

Let's not be silly

Among Habs forwards Dvorak is:

1st in Blocked Shots
1st in FO %
2nd in SH Ice time

He's not a hard forechecker but he always backchecks
Blocked shots is more of an indication of being bad defensively.

Faceoffs mean nothing. Yanic Perreault was elite at faceoffs but awful defensively.

SH TOI because we have no one other than Evans to throw out there.

Robitaille is an interesting comp, he does remind me a bit of him. He doesn't need to be physical other then I'd like to see him engage more, play with more pace but it matters more what his teammates think of him. Watching him in Laval I have a had time with him as he can be extremely frustrating at times and then out of no where he's got 2 or 3 points.

That said it's also a treat to watch him shoot or pass the puck, just so skilled but at times he looks like he doesn't give much of a shit.
He's very Robitaille-ish. Not a great skater but fantastic vision and wonderful hands.

The way things are going, long term Roy probably winds up on an offensive 3rd line along with Beck and Newhook. And that's a great thing for us.

We absolutely need a bit more size/skill combo in the top six. CC, Nick, Slaf and Demidov are top six for sure. Dach the jury is out. Laine is fine for one more year but we need a big power foward out there to balance it out. So much the better if Dach can get his shit together too.

There’s a reason Roy was a 5th rounder, avg pace and questionable work ethic….. yet he’s viewed as a 1st rounder …

My comment is somewhat unfair to Marcotte. He will criticize but not overly. He can't afford to burn bridges with these players.
Watching every Laval game I can honestly say that yes...Roy is producing but there is still alot of work to be done. Great offensive player who needs to show more in the other zones.

Based on what I have seen Beck plays a much more complete game, plays with grit and plays hard in all 3 zones.
Roy is one dimensional and doesn't have the speed to play with an up tempo game.

A line of Beck, Newhook and Roy would be pretty good together. Beck has the hardnosed style of play the others lack. Newhook has amazing speed and Roy is the best offensively out of all of them. It would be a really interesting line.

Relax w expectations…if he develops into a meaningful asset … great Habs won the lottery
I think he has top six potential. I was hoping to see him on the 2nd this year. But he should be a fantastic third liner as he can contribute offensively in a depth role. Amazing pick for where we got him.

Don't like this move at all, he has a habit of settling and getting comfortable and the hard work stops. Best to learn how to be a pro down there, and reward him at the end of the year.
Maybe they didn't see his game on Friday night.
He did have a good game Saturday and he did have that one back check that may have saved a goal. :sarcasm:
It feels like we are grasping at straws a bit.

I can't believe the media are also hyping RHP's eventual return saying it will give MSL more munitions. :skeptic:
Both he and Pezz can go on waivers as far as I'm concerned.
I'm still not sure why we didn't buy trade or steal an upgrade on Pezz in the first place.
If you can't bring in your extra forward to spark a team on occasion you have the wrong 13th forward plain and simple.

And where was Luc Robitaille drafted? Doesn't mean Roy can't be a good player. Easier to say that he won't be. Forgetting about draft positions, Frank Mahovlich was considered a lazy player too, & no, I'm not saying..........

Three spots I could see Roy:

1. Caufield - Suzuki - Dach
Roy - Laine - Slaf

2. Armia - Newhook - Roy

3. Caufield - Suzuki - Roy

No but there isn’t a better option for a 13F who will keep his mouth shut play the occasional game but keep acting like a 100% pro at all times
Here's the thing though....won't be the end of the world, but at one point it's RHP vs Pezzetta for waivers/13th forward. I'd send Pezz on waivers, I'd give RHP time to practice with the boys to get the form back.

I'd keep Pezz over RHP.
He brings 4th line energy and toughness.
RHP has brought nothing since his hot streak 1st call-up, constantly injured and we can't afford more small bottom 6 players.

No one cares
It's great that Roy gets a shot, but this team won't be consistent until we have a serviceable center to play behind Suzuki. This is the real reason this team is not doing better than it is. Dvorak and Evans are okay as bottom 6 centers and nothing more and I suggest that if Dach can't fill the role the Habs make a trade for one, someone on an expiring contract. I don't think anyone would argue that wins are important for development.

To all the old-timers here, isn't it something that we find ourselves sucking yet again at the center ice position? It's been forever since we had two good centers.
