I wouldn't confuse them for Cup contenders but they've played like a .500 team and they're 2-8.
Serious question, how much of their good play has come while they're down by two or more goals? From my admittedly shitty memory, I feel like most of their great play has been while catching up. I'm not convinced that they *are* playing like a .500 team for that reason.

What it is, is frustrating. I understand that. And I know the hole is probably already too big.

But I don't see anything terrible here. We've played plenty of games poorly and lost almost all of them. But we've also played plenty of games well and.......lost almost all of them.

It's just not there for us right now. It's part of the sport. It's been a long time since we've had to face this. I think most people would agree we outperformed ourselves in each of the last three years, to varying extents.

San Jose had a similar year in 2015. Obviously very talented but just nothing went right and they missed the playoffs. I think at this point you keep your picks and take them as high as they go. Trade replaceable pieces at the deadline if you can.

What I wouldn't do is start tearing away the core and trade McDonagh, Zucc, Kreider, etc. I really don't think this team is that far off from being good. That same Sharks team went to the Finals in 2016.

The players are talented and that shows. AV lacks in proper game plan, lacks in adjustments during game, and the players that respect him the most are the ones that are getting undeserved playing time (Staal, Digiorno, Holden).

It looks like a lifeless team, and nothing changes other random mish-mashing of lines. Accountability is a skewed premise on this team.

Looking at statistical analysis and focusing or refining different small things is designed for consistency, but right now we don't even have the results to build consistency around. Frankly, the team doesn't get worse by firing the coach; it is worth doing it for the sake of doing it, as dumb as that may sound.

Good loss.

The game against the Yotes is much more important. HAVE to lose that one.

We'll have to see.

Everything in this game is instinct. There's no time to think about your mechanics like in baseball or even basketball. Hitting in the net is a lot more out of the player's control than people realize. It was unlucky night, it happens.

This team just shot the lights out against Nashville two days ago.

Even if we were complete bottom dwellers, what's the chances that we get Dahlin?
It's still a huge gamble and It's that type of thinking (Chytil, Andersson) that partially got us into this mess in the first place..

But what's the point? Token playoff experience does nothing for this group.

We most certainly dont look like contenders atm, but I rather grab a wildcard spot instead of tanking. Once you are in the playoffs a new season begins and all bets are off.

Well you know and everyone else knows, that despite me thinking this team has been unlucky, I still want the coach gone.

A lot of this game is up to the universe, but you can still give yourself the best possible chance. AV doesn't.

I'd much rather be worst than 8th worst.

This team isn't good. We'd have to be one of the best teams in the NHL for the rest of the season to make the playoffs.

And even then, once the PDO turns around, this team will be halfway decent.

The tanking fantasy is just that.

Still, I think we can end up with a decent pick in a good draft.

And if your goaltender gifts the opponent three of four goals...

Tanking is not an option and would be a total disgrace to the logo IMO..

EDIT: BUT..I wouldn't put it past JG at this point..

This team is significantly worse than past teams that couldn't get the job done. We have no chance at the cup.

I was at the Golden Knights game SAturday against St. Louis. The team, with vastly less talent than the Rangers, is 6-1. They play hard, are cohesive, beat a very good Blues team even with their 3rd goalie.

Then I watch this stuff tonight. No energy, no speed (on a team supposedly the fastest in the league), all one-on-one play, pass when they should shoot, shoot when they should pass, power play way too predictable, that's why they're 0 for 6.

I don't believe in tanking for draft picks, but I do believe this team is very poorly coached, and the players are literally tanking to get the coach fired, particularly guys like Kreider. I always liked AV's emphasis on speed, but his man-love of certain players (Staal, Nash, DD) and his refusal to let the kids play and make mistakes is maddening and fireable.
