I can't help but feel bad for AV though.

Granted we're not privy to what goes on behind closed doors, but I can't help to think that he probably does this to himself.
They like to preach the system, yet when players constantly go outside of it, it's because they have no faith in it.

He needs to go.

What it is, is frustrating. I understand that. And I know the hole is probably already too big.

But I don't see anything terrible here. We've played plenty of games poorly and lost almost all of them. But we've also played plenty of games well and.......lost almost all of them.

It's just not there for us right now. It's part of the sport. It's been a long time since we've had to face this. I think most people would agree we outperformed ourselves in each of the last three years, to varying extents.

San Jose had a similar year in 2015. Obviously very talented but just nothing went right and they missed the playoffs. I think at this point you keep your picks and take them as high as they go. Trade replaceable pieces at the deadline if you can.

What I wouldn't do is start tearing away the core and trade McDonagh, Zucc, Kreider, etc. I really don't think this team is that far off from being good. That same Sharks team went to the Finals in 2016.

if AV goes Arniel better go. Remember when we got shatty we said well not even Arniel can f*** this up...............................................

So can we all agree that this team sucks now and that "tanking" is the smart play? I know it still seems early, but this team is going to have to play at about a 104 point pace in the hardest division in the NHL just to safely land a wild card spot. It's not going to happen.

The thing is AV won't change and try to change stuff up that he does. He is too stubborn and it's like he has to be proven right, even if what he does leads to losses. Bag skate them, try to light fires under their asses...SOMETHING! ANYTHING!

This is probably the best possible scenario for the organization tbh.

Its the best if we wind up bottom 2-3 in the league but finishing 3 points out of a playoff spot doesn't inspire confidence that it will push up to where we need to be in terms of stocking the organization with supreme talent

This situation should surprise no one. AV has a shelf life with a team. It happened in Vancouver and It's happening here. It's time to move on. Although keeping him through the end of the year would be better for our draft position.

What do we think of Kevin Shattenkirk as a player and performance so far?

Unfortunately not a first pairing dman so if he doesn't help this powerplay and offense it won't be a good signing.
Unfortunately, if the teams sucks and doesn't make the playoffs by default it will be a bad signing. He's not gonna be getting younger but i guess some feel he is the type of dman that will be effective in to his 30's

Good loss.

Never thought he was all that great of a defenseman. Thought he was a really good puck mover and spectacular on the PP.

So far, he's looked like hot garbage. Not the least bit impressed. As I said in the GDT, looks like a Dark Ages signing that comes to NY and floats.
