People this is not a video game, the Rangers just lost their CAPTAIN. What do you think that does to a locker room? Its not math - replace callahans production with st louis production, its flesh and blood.

We'll find out how influential and important Callahan was from here on out and what effect it will have, but you cant say its an obvious upgrade WITHOUT HAVING SEEN A GAME. The chemistry is completely different now.

We lost 1 captain, gained another who is a much better player.

I'll take my chances with that

It's not like we traded for freakin' Yashin.

Players don't think that way. And this is the captain we're talking about. There's a difference.

Loyalty goes both ways. That captain tried to rob his franchise. There's a difference between trading a captain and trading a captain who is demanding a contract that you absolutely will not give him.

I'd imagine that players think all sorts of ways. They don't fall into a homogenous thought process.

I understand it takes two to make a deal. But which side do you think the players are going to take?

I big contract can only help the other players in a players mind.

As amused as I am at the return, I wonder whether NYR shouldn't have stuck a foot in the door on either of those players if the goal is to win this year.

If the price was a 2nd and a mid-tier F prospect, i would have given a second and Fast, for sure.

Can't wait to see Marty on the ice.

Loves you Cally but your demands were unreasonable.

Listening to his quotes on TSN it sounds like he genuinely believed he would be re signing. Possibly a case ofa greedy agent trying to max out the dollars while assuri Cally that it would work out and he had nothing to worry about. Perhaps Bartlett is more to blame than Cally.

I don't think there is. These are professionals many of them who are up for new contracts this year and next. Many of them who want to win a cup. If this hurts the team to such a significant degree that it turns them into losers at all then I have to think the team was so mentally weak that it doesn't matter if we trade the capt or not. What is Richards going to not play hard (sh** he already did that last year for no reason), is Hags going to stop playing with less than two years on a deal? Kreider, Stepan, Boyle, Staal, Moore, Carcillo, Dorsett are any of these guys going to stop playing and screw up their future earnings bc Callahan is gone?

Is Lundqvist going to throw in the towel and give up on a cup now bc callahan is gone?

Or are some of them going to come out and say "The whole room was silent and then it starts to hit you y'know we're going to play with Martin St. Louis. The guy's a capt and legend in his own right"

Callahan was the only person in the world surprised he was dealt. It's like he had Steven Abootman bargaining for him.

hmm, interesting morning.

Sad that Cally is no longer a Ranger, was hoping he'd be a one-team player. Very glad we didn't give him anything close to 6x6, it was simply too much.

Glad that a player with the skill of MSL is a Ranger and I get to watch him in blue. Not a player I would have gone after because I was (and still am even though it's redundant) on the retool/rebuild bandwagon and so young guys/picks were my preference.

Not fussed about the picks. Would prefer it to be a 1st and 2nd rather than 2 firsts, but if it is 2 firsts at least I'll get to watch a pretty deep playoff run.

Overall, pretty ambivalent really. Hopefully MSL can come in a light up the Garden, looking forward to watching him play today.

Horrible trade, we got a player with skill, who is 38 y/o.

There was no market, but we gave up a 1st and a 2nd that can become another 1st. We could have kept Cally AND traded for Vanek AND probably added like Stewert for that price lol if we wanted to go for it now now now.
