I don't think there is. These are professionals many of them who are up for new contracts this year and next. Many of them who want to win a cup. If this hurts the team to such a significant degree that it turns them into losers at all then I have to think the team was so mentally weak that it doesn't matter if we trade the capt or not. What is Richards going to not play hard (sh** he already did that last year for no reason), is Hags going to stop playing with less than two years on a deal? Kreider, Stepan, Boyle, Staal, Moore, Carcillo, Dorsett are any of these guys going to stop playing and screw up their future earnings bc Callahan is gone?
Is Lundqvist going to throw in the towel and give up on a cup now bc callahan is gone?
Or are some of them going to come out and say "The whole room was silent and then it starts to hit you y'know we're going to play with Martin St. Louis. The guy's a capt and legend in his own right"
I was hoping to trade for Dan Boyle as well, to solidify the defense.
Kevin Klein and John Moore will be the downfall of a decently structured roster.
Oh well.

Horrible trade, we got a player with skill, who is 38 y/o.
There was no market, but we gave up a 1st and a 2nd that can become another 1st. We could have kept Cally AND traded for Vanek AND probably added like Stewert for that price lol if we wanted to go for it now now now.

You're completely missing my point. As usual.
So there's this: told that the San Jose Sharks went pretty far down the road on Ryan Callahan deal with NYR...

Eaxactly.
If the goal is reaching the ECF/SCF, then we are giving up our Captain + two 1st's ! !!
That is more than what TO gave up for a young Phil Kessel. And people killed TO for that and lauded Boston for turning a disgruntled asset into Seguin & Hamilton.
We're not getting a YOUNG Martin St. Louis. We gave up more than two 1st's, and god help them if we poop the bed and that 2015 first turn into a top 5 pick.

I don't think the "win now" MSL Fanboys understand the magnitude of this trade and how much we overpaid, especially for a player who wanted out from the team we were trading with. Just because Stevie Y wanted Cally plus Lundqvist & MCD and we wittled him down to Cally and 2x 1st doesn;t make the (Cally = 2x 1st's) a slam dunk deal.
That's like your wife buying coffee mugs for $100 on sale because they were marked down from $200. They're still ********g coffee mugs!!!
Per Pierre LeBrun.
Interesting...
TO gave up 2 1sts and a 2nd guaranteed at a time when it seemed very possible that they were going to get a lotto pick. Lotto picks are probably the best chance a team can get a superstar/elite player with any kind of likelihood.
They also were choc full of very big holes and were not competing for much of anything at the time. Kessel also has never sniffed MSL's production. Although his youth makes up for that last bit.
I am still disturbed by the notion of us not lotto protecting the picks though.
That said it seems very very likely that it's 1 late first and a conditional 2nd. Not a lotto first, another first and a 2nd
This is going to be epic. 100% he scores tonight.
if the Rangers are a lottery team, then theres a lot more things to worry about than this trade.
