I don't think there is. These are professionals many of them who are up for new contracts this year and next. Many of them who want to win a cup. If this hurts the team to such a significant degree that it turns them into losers at all then I have to think the team was so mentally weak that it doesn't matter if we trade the capt or not. What is Richards going to not play hard (sh** he already did that last year for no reason), is Hags going to stop playing with less than two years on a deal? Kreider, Stepan, Boyle, Staal, Moore, Carcillo, Dorsett are any of these guys going to stop playing and screw up their future earnings bc Callahan is gone?

Is Lundqvist going to throw in the towel and give up on a cup now bc callahan is gone?

Or are some of them going to come out and say "The whole room was silent and then it starts to hit you y'know we're going to play with Martin St. Louis. The guy's a capt and legend in his own right"

You're completely missing my point. As usual.

It's official. He's playing tonight

lovely ...

I've got a really bad feeling about that 2015 pick. Oh well. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to see MSL on this team.

I was hoping to trade for Dan Boyle as well, to solidify the defense.

Kevin Klein and John Moore will be the downfall of a decently structured roster.

Oh well.

A Boyle addition (likely for picks/prospects) would've legitimately been Sather's coup de gras

Just going all in for the next 2-3 seasons. F the haters

Kevin Klein? That guy who has outplayed, and took Stralman's spot with Staal? Oh yeah. He'll be the end of us.

Horrible trade, we got a player with skill, who is 38 y/o.

There was no market, but we gave up a 1st and a 2nd that can become another 1st. We could have kept Cally AND traded for Vanek AND probably added like Stewert for that price lol if we wanted to go for it now now now.

Not just a player. It's MSL. You also might be overrating the value of those picks quite a bit while simultaneously underrating that 38 yo by quite a bit.

Eaxactly.

If the goal is reaching the ECF/SCF, then we are giving up our Captain + two 1st's ! !!

That is more than what TO gave up for a young Phil Kessel. And people killed TO for that and lauded Boston for turning a disgruntled asset into Seguin & Hamilton.

We're not getting a YOUNG Martin St. Louis. We gave up more than two 1st's, and god help them if we poop the bed and that 2015 first turn into a top 5 pick.

I don't think the "win now" MSL Fanboys understand the magnitude of this trade and how much we overpaid, especially for a player who wanted out from the team we were trading with. Just because Stevie Y wanted Cally plus Lundqvist & MCD and we wittled him down to Cally and 2x 1st doesn;t make the (Cally = 2x 1st's) a slam dunk deal.

That's like your wife buying coffee mugs for $100 on sale because they were marked down from $200. They're still ********g coffee mugs!!!

why ?

and pay him 6/6

or let him walk and miss the playoffs ? msl will score a ton for us for the next 2 years.

draft picks are only valuable if you know how to draft. lol.

Callahan is a glorified 3rd liner. And if he resigns, we get TB's 2nd rounder in 2015..

So if he doesn't resign and we make the ECF or better, it's MSL for two 1sts who may or may not pan out... If we don't go that far, it's a 1st and 2nd. In the short run NYR wins. Depending on the picks and if Callahan resigns, TB will win.

I really don't see how this is an argument with anyone. NYR wins the next 2 years until we see those picks. This is a team more built to win then needing more draft picks to develop. It could've been better, but you're not getting last year's Art Ross winner, even if he's 38, for anything less.

TO gave up 2 1sts and a 2nd guaranteed at a time when it seemed very possible that they were going to get a lotto pick. Lotto picks are probably the best chance a team can get a superstar/elite player with any kind of likelihood.

They also were choc full of very big holes and were not competing for much of anything at the time. Kessel also has never sniffed MSL's production. Although his youth makes up for that last bit.

I am still disturbed by the notion of us not lotto protecting the picks though.

That said it seems very very likely that it's 1 late first and a conditional 2nd. Not a lotto first, another first and a 2nd

People are severely underrating MSL, and this NYR team.

I'm not a fan of giving up the 1st's. However, MSL is an ELITE player, on pace for 81 points. That's WITHOUT playing with Steven Stamkos. He's 38 and very likely has 3 more 70+ years in him.

Toronto was a ****** team that gave up 2 firsts. The Rangers are a pretty solid team giving up (potentially) two firsts. The difference between 1-10 and, say, 15-30 (where we're much more likely to fall) is VERY significant.

Nash-MSL-Zucarello is as good as you'll get on the right side in this league. MSL and Zuke are ridiculous playmakers and will improve the play of whoever plays with them.

Again- 2 1st's is a hard price to pay and the only reason i'm not happy with this. Callahan is a great player...MSL is better and will cost less.

edit- And you're not getting Vanek when he's in in the division. That's a pipe-dream. Isles fans would've rioted if Vanek went to NYR and Snow knows that, as stupid as he is.

if the Rangers are a lottery team, then theres a lot more things to worry about than this trade.

No arguement from me but you still have to prepare for that worst outcome. Otherwise you get NY Knick'd...multiple times. They really do have the patent on destroying their franchise future by giving away top picks.

Oh well.

Your agenda against Klein is really funny.
