All I know is St Louis better drop the gloves tonight to show hes a team player.

From that interview I got one thing from his tone. He figured they would pay him whatever he wanted. He is so going to regret this, I don't see anyone giving him much more then 6x6 on the open market.

people dont get it.

the draft picks were added because the deal wasnt getting done without them. period.

stevie y had to be sure he got value incase cally walks away. theres no guarantee he signs there.

hes a rental unless he signs a deal with them and with what he was asking from us, thats near stamkos money for the bolts. callys demands scare the bolts as much as he scared us.

unless and until he signs a deal- one the bolts can live with, its rental cally only and 2 picks for their capt and one of the top players in the entire league. essentially and potentially thats the deal.

again, sather did well and stevie y did what he had to in case cally takes the cash and runs back to western new york.

I agree. If we're going to go for it now, just do it already...don't go halfway.

This team still has a number of holes even with MSL, so what is the point? We're kinda sorta planning for the future, but we're also kinda sorta mortgaging the future for now.

Sather's only plan is to not have a plan.

He certainly has a plan. It's win now. His judgement might be a little poor, but he has a plan.

Just answer me this. Do you believe MSL makes us a cup favorite in the next 2-3 seasons or before he retires? If not, then why bother?

It's actually multiple picks. The picks we save + the ones we pick up by trading Callahan. And sure, no pick outside the top-5 has never done a damn thing in the NHL. Right.

Whats the point of being good if you're not the best?

Keep your current players happy. Put your young players in a spot to play on a decent team with other decent players and be most likely to reach their ceilings.

I think a lot of my excitement over this is what didn't happen. I hated the idea of the rumored Hagelin for St. Louis swap. I know in my heart that if Cally signed that 6x6 contract that it wouldn't take long before he became a hated player on this team like Drury did.

Honestly though I think the Rangers now are a team that can compete for a cup. Clearly they aren't in the same league as Boston and Pittsburgh. And there are countless better teams in the West. But anyone can win it. Though unlikely, I think this team at least now has a chance. And I love the influence that St. Louis is going to have with the youth of this team.

Callahan and Bartlett are trying to frame this as if this is completely on the Rangers. Bottom line is that 6x6 is a very generous offer from a team trying to compete in the present. He wanted 6x6.25 with no movement clauses. He might get that from a rebuilding team this summer, but not a chance he gets that from a competing team.

Yeah I get that but this is bigger than Nash. Nash wishes he was MSL.

...that's a point.

This is so frustrating. MSL is one of my favorite players. Callahan is my favorite athlete.

Couldn't we have given Tampa the Nash package for MSL instead? Avoided Slack Nash altogether?

No, because "Slack Nash" can be a gamebreaker in an instant. How many times has he tied or put the game away this season? Nash is a Hossa-type. Chicago does it right. They don't lean on Hossa; he's an excellent supplement to Toews and Kane. Nash instantly becomes a supplementary player with MSL on the roster. This is great.

cally for 6 more years at 6 per is worse than not having msl on the roster 2 years from now. if its a 1st and a 2nd for 4 years of cap space and 2 yrs of msl, thats still worth it to me.

well win more games with msl than we would with cally. hard to argue that.

of all the options, this one is the best we could have asked for. too many people are hung up on the draft picks.

the market for cally just wasnt there.

Right on the money. I couldn't agree more...

Can someone post the photo of Sather fishing with the smile on his face? LOL....

Also, who is ready for the awkward commentary tonight during the broadcast re: Callahan's departure?

Any talk on when the Rangers will name a new captain?

St. Louis playing tonight?

Thats a fair point, and maybe I can hate Nash less now that he's not THE guy.

He's just such a cherry picker, I don't even want to root for him. Nash, that is. Not MSL. St. Louis is all balls.

Cally did it to himself with his outragous demands. No one to blame here but himself. Was offered 6x6,wouldnt take it,thats on him,we move on.

Appreciate what he did here, but hes easily replaceable and at alot less money per year.

Excited to see MSL here

Lets Go Rangers!!

Well yeah the difference could have been bridged with one conversation weeks ago...if one side completely caved.

Sather set a line in the sand, Callahan set a line the sand, and neither side wanted to cross theirs. If Callahan really wanted to stay he could have not played chicken with Sather on a new contract
