We are 33-26-3.

Outside the first 10 games, and the last 2 horrendous games, (3-9), we had a run of 30-17-3 from October 29 until the end of February, in which we beat Chicago twice.

That is pretty dominating.

To put this in perspective, during that period, Pittsburgh went 32-11-4. 68 points. We have 63 in that same period.

This team is very good.

Callahan wasn't netting significant futures unfortunately. Where's his market?

Other teams watched the Rangers this year and the Olympics, they aren't stupid too. There's a reason why Sather eventually passed on Callahan, and why teams like St Louis (and I'm assuming LAK) that were in the market for rental wingers refused to give up anything significant for him.

Other teams make trades like this when they're one player away from winning the Cup. We make trades like this to solidify a low playoff seed.

Also, we make trades like this when we can't meet the absurd demands of a player. A player whom's playing style will make him uneffective in his 30s and has already made him a lesser player than he was. Ryan Callahan also knows this, of course, which is why he's looking for security in his next contract. I don't blame him. But we can't cripple ourselves with that contract just to keep Cally. We just can't. Even though it stings like hell to trade the guy that has been the face of the franchise for the new New York Rangers.

That we get a still highly-producing player like Martin St-Louis is pretty much great, considering we'd either cripple ourselves with Callys contract or watch him walk and get nothing. We get a superstar (yep) on a great contract and that will definitely help us in the playoffs. If you're scared of his age, just look at players like Selänne, Alfredsson and Jagr. I'm sorry, I just can't not "like" this trade. Albeit I admit that first rounder hurt.

If you subtract the worst stretches of any team you can make them sound dominating. We are one point clear of a playoff spot in the weaker conference. You are your record. Period.

Yeah, Franzen and Bertuzzi played for the red wings dynasty in the 90s. you got me.

Don't kid yourself. Holmstrom is not soft by any means. but he was a truck infront of the net. He didn't go for giant kronwall hits or anything.

Shanahan, McCarty, Lapointe, Maltby, Draper, Holmstrom.

The Rangers most physical player right now is a toss up between Zucc and Kreider.
I'm not advocating for "Kronwall hits" I am advocating for player who can take/give a hit to make a play, win loose pucks in the corners, and gain position in the slot.

wow +1 for the "REALLY doesn't get it" club

:shakehead

pretty sure anyone would rather have 2 years of an ELITE player over a pick that, history says will probably suck.

oh and we don't have to give a grinder 6m x 6 to sit in the press box with a broken something

Just answer me this. Do you believe MSL makes us a cup favorite in the next 2-3 seasons or before he retires? If not, then why bother?

It's actually multiple picks. The picks we save + the ones we pick up by trading Callahan. And sure, no pick outside the top-5 has never done a damn thing in the NHL. Right.

So besides shanahan, A bunch of grinders and 4th liners? Thats what we need! more grinders! If anything blame chumps like boyle that are as tall as skyscrapers but don't know how to use it.

This team wins puck battles along the boards just fine with speed and effort. Zuke is the size of a smurf and still strips people on the boards easily. Just because you have size doesn't mean you'll get the job done. See pouliot.

That's not a very good way to judge how the team is rolling.

People spitting out hyperbole about "one good month" and what not. Yes, we are where we are in the standings. But we have been playing great hockey from Nov 1-Feb 28. That's a long stretch. That's a better indication of how good our hockey club is than a 9 game road trip to start the season.

What is the excuse for the last 2 games again?

I agree. If we're going to go for it now, just do it already...don't go halfway.

This team still has a number of holes even with MSL, so what is the point? We're kinda sorta planning for the future, but we're also kinda sorta mortgaging the future for now.

Sather's only plan is to not have a plan.

No offense but if you are discounting the performance of those players you must not remember the 97 and 98 playoffs that well.

Plus we are talking about one team. We could go through the rosters of the last decades worth of conference finals winners if you want a bigger sample size.

DRW aren't a realistic goal anyways unless you can point out the Rangers Yzerman and Lidstrom.

Judging by Callahan's interview on TSN. It doesn't sound like he even plans to talk to tampa and will just wait till July.

Apperently he honestly thought he would be resigning with NYR.

I'm so bipolar right now. On one hand Callahan was legitimately like my hero when it comes to hockey. My favorite player ever. But on the other hand Martin ****ing St. Louis is a Ranger. That blows my mind.

I thought the same thing after the Nash trade.

Now I burn his effigy every second thursday of the month
