1. Can you prove that the team is somehow going to collapse when MSL leaves?

2. What makes you think a few extra mid-first and 2nd round picks was going to make all the difference between a successful and unsuccessful future?

Adding MSl for this helps our chances marginally in the short run, and hurts us marginally int he long run. The impact isn't nearly as extreme as your hyperbolic assertions.

1. Of course you can't prove it.

2. The assumption is that our current prospects will not pan out, but the players we would have drafted with the picks WOULD pan out.

It's Hockey's Future. While I understand that "Win now, at all costs!" is not a healthy mentality when it comes to running a franchise, HF takes it the other way--do nothing now other than develop players and stockpile draft picks. I'm not surprised in the slightest that people are on the verge of suicide over the thought of giving up a first and second.

Hagelin - Richards - St. Louis...so much for "St. Louis will blah blah Kreider".

Wowowowowwowow. Can't believe it actually happened. Holy ****.

So, we once again gut our franchise for an aging player in a year where we appear to be a borderline playoff team. MSL is great and all, but really, another 1st rounder? This will be one sad franchise to watch in 3 to 5 years.

This. So much this.

Extremely mixed feelings right now.

Points will be debated across this board, but one thing strikes me as eerily consistent with this franchise:

Bringing in aging vets at the end of their careers is the time honored tradition: Marcel Dionne, Guy Lafleur, Bernie Geoffrion, et. al.

Giving away high draft picks and or young talent to get old wine... and in this perhaps, fine wine.

What's done is done as they say. Just seems the Rangers will never do things differently.

Team has 3, maybe 4 years before it's a basement dweller again. those picks are huge.

Get ready for the dark ages people. AV, Nash, Richards and Sather are the four horsemen as far as I'm concerned

Agree.

Not to mention... Staal contract expires next summer.

That helps not having a first IF he resigns.

Going all in, yet we have what exactly down the middle that matches up against the best? Who else carries the puck and provides secondary support when the top 3 guys are taken off the board? Benoit Pouliot ? Come on man....

Star players who come here on the backside of their mid 30's always continue their ways like nothing has changed right?

Duclair and Buch have proved nothing but 1 good season and you're ready to pencil them in, yet this years draft picks are 'no big deal' and 'who knows when they'll be ready if ever' ?

Contradictions help one side more than the other.

This is a star player we are getting during the season. This is somebody coming in that is playing well ALREADY!!!

St. Louis is a fitness freak who still seems to have a ton left in the tank and is still scoring at phenomenal pace. He's definitely a young 38. Saying "I'm 43 and I don't like it" is completely irrelevant if you haven't trained like St. Louis for the last 20 years.

Well, we just got ALOT better. Buy out BRich next year and sign Stasny. This team will be very different next year....and much better.

I dont covet draft picks like most on this board. Sather will pick up a reclamation project and then maybe a few more young guys. Lets face it we will never get a stud through the draft. Not saying its the right thing to do but its the way it is

Callahan's ridiculous contract demands basically made him untradeable for anything of value. He had no value being traded alone.

The Rangers could also be looking to get another 2015 1st from someone ....

For free? We'd have to give up something substantial.

Callahan was the something substantial we didn't truly need that we could have turned into more assets. Instead, we paid extra assets to move him out.

Only worthwhile if you win a Cup. Which I frankly doubt we will because we lack a top center.

I feel like the draft picks by themselves could have made this trade happen. But damn giving up Callahan and the picks??? wtf??? Serious over payment.

This does nothing for this team, does not make us better.

uh seriously? Does nothing for the team? One of the highest scoring players in the league will do nothing for them. Okkkkkk...
