I tend to agree. But i still dont think he meshes well with panarin and co.

I do like him with kreider though at ES. Hopefully Krav can get a look at RW there or gaut. Goody needs to go to 4c if only to get rid of leschysntyndhdneh
Bringing in Tank allows you to deploy some correct forward depth and Trocheck should really be in that 3rd line center spot where he belongs.

There is some really nice depth spread out if they can stay healthy with this move. And if things need to change you could always try Kakko Chytil Tarasenko

His numbers are Barbashev esque.

Not that you need to be a big producer in his role but you have to give something.

Lafferty is still my target for that role.
Ok let's send the 2025 4th from the Nils trade for Lafferty so basically we traded Nils for Tarasenko and Lafferty. Not bad.

Kakko becomes a LW

I think Lafferty brings back more than that.

He’s signed for 1.15 for next year too.
we are running a bit thin on picks. Nemeth cost us a freaking two 2nd's ugh. Braun cost us a 3rd. Motte cost us a 4th. Copp cost us an extra 5th. Not trading any more picks from this years draft (Even the Georgiev 3rd rounder).

My eye test agrees with this.

Their metrics together are pretty fantastic though despite the results. Id be tempted to give tarasenko a look with the 2 of them.

I think Kreider tro and Vesey will be a decent trio though. Vesey does a lot of good things. Dude has had a Brian Boyle esque renaissance here.

I’d send them Kravtsov.

I slotted him in the wrong place and you are nuts if you think they had the blues hold half the salary for tank AND take blais for no reason. SJ would easily hold half of meier's contract for the right return. it can still be done
I think you misunderstood. The rangers don't have the cap room for Meier even if they wanted to get him. They literally have maybe $1.6 mill available at the deadline to add a player.

Wasn't Kreider a 19 OA?

Not really in the same realm.

I mean the pick could also be David Pasternak but it can be a Dylan Olsen, Jacob Josefson, Jordan Caron, Beau Bennett, Tyler Biggs, Henrik Samuelsson or a host of other guys picked in that range who never make it. Much more likely that happens than that they even become NHL regulars, let alone good NHL regulars or stars.

I mean hey in that 25 to 32 overall range you can get Corey Perry (A Hart and Cup winner, all-star)! Of course you could also get something more meh like Brian Boyle or Patrick Eaves. Even worse, you can end up with Anthony Stewart, Jeff Tambellini, Shawn Belle, Danny Richmond, or Ryan Stone...

Oh, and those were just the guys from what is considered the best draft class of all time.

Being a GM is all about balance. You can't be just 100% focused on the now but you also can't be just 100% focused on the future. It's about striking the right balance.

You don't want to give away all your value every year in short sighted moves but you also don't want to miss your window. If you have a million assets and a great system but never strike in your window and you could be looking back at a blown opportunity.

This is a good move because you're getting upgrades for the now without selling out the future. You traded a couple surplus assets, with only the late 1st stinging. We still have the better first for this draft and we didn't give up any top prospects. This deal is a perfect example of making a move to go for it now without selling the farm. It's good for the now and for the future (bc you didn't give up too much).

Coming off an ECF appearance, team playing at a similar pace this season on a real heater the last 30 games - it would've been borderline malpractice for Drury to not make some 'go for it' moves for this year, seeing the ages of the stars, the contract statuses of the kids. This is a perfect year to try and go on a run. With our high end talent, kids starting to outperform their cap hits and our goalie - this team can win a 7 game series against anyone in the league. Idk if they will, but they absolutely can go on a run and that's what this is all about.

I think another thing that people forget is being a GM is also about keeping your job (1 of 32 in the world). Whether it's right or wrong, with most of these owners (and the man-child that is Jimmy is definitely one), there is no 8 year plan. It does make GMs take more risks for short-term gain than a poster on a message board who, if they're wrong about something, nothing changes for them and everyone mostly forgets about it.

Still have a first in '23, still have assets to possibly trade for a first as well. Oh and an aside, if the Rangers had drafted Tarasenko in '10 then everything that point forward would be different about this team, not necessarily for the better or the worse.

Obviously the latter. To me this is much more in keeping with the former which is why I disagree w the consensus. The sugar high is always the highest right in this moment.

We all knew a trade was coming no matter what. I would've liked to keep the two 1sts, really, but at least if a trade was going to be made, this is probably the best result with no major prospects involved, and we sent Blais back who wasn't doing jack for us anyway.

I wouldn’t be against bumping Trocheck for Tank on PP1. Why not. You went out and spent a first on the guy. Go ahead and send it

Start Tarasenko in the bumper spot and see what happens. If it’s shit then switch him and Mika and see what happens.

But I think if he can slide up into the slot a tad having to respect Tanks shot will open up some options for Mika, either down low back door to Kreider, over to Tank on his forehand or take what they give you with the one timer.

We see a lot of rebounds off Mika’s shot that a righty can’t always get to, so if Tank is moving through the slot on his forehand that’s a good place to have him.

Kreider is smart enough to play off both posts so he could easily slide to the other side if Mika controls and you could bang bang into the bumper on Tanks forehand as well.

There’s too many guys to respect and that’s the idea 5 on 4.
Where do I start...

Needed 4 things before the deadline and we got the 2 toughest parts of that in one deal. #1 RW and #6D

Still need a bottom 6 forward and a Justin Braun defenseman. Ben Harpur cannot play in the playoffs. Need to get a guy we can feel comfortable playing in the playoffs but have no problem scratching right now.

The fourth piece is a bottom 6 forward and that will probably be Motte.

after monday's game you're complaining? really? that was one for the ages...
didn't impress you huh? Calgary is a good team. what would have like to have seen happen?

and throw away game against pitiful vancouver?

every season is different, and all the youth has that experience under them. there's no perfect season and no
guarantees.

They are playing well, the kids are clicking, they sign a goal scorer, win a huge game with our captain
decimating people...

you come on here crying like you're the only ranger fan that wants a Stanley cup?

Drury has some more moves planed. I trust him. He's played in the NHL.... and he owns a pizzeria.
cant underestimate the owned a pizzeria part, he gets puck deep in the cheese and sauces

Hard to believe losing Strome has possibly made this PP worse, and I'm not even one of those fans that hated Strome.

Hopefully, Tarasenko helps boost up this PP, it has the talent to be a lot better.
oh hes got a great shot?

gallant the ape is going to make him bumper boy so it doesnt even matter

So what you are saying is you want to abolish the cap, deal all of our futures for one cup run that may not even guarantee a cup, and yet you seem mad at Neil Smith for doing just that when it did get us the cup.

Did I get that right?
The cap is an excuse that the TBL master .
Smith went ALL in 94’
He went Luke warm in w Gretzky .

I’m saying - since we’ve dealt 1’s like nothing - go for it .
Get creative- get a team to retain cash.

We are starving for a Cup - are we not ?

Are you with me ?

Which players are you interested in replacing now? As far as I can see the roster is pretty full and the lineup very well balanced.
Regardless of the market, which players now do you wish to see replaced?
The entire 4th line

Maybe, but they are real cap issues. Like i just dont see how they are adding a big piece even with retention if they dont get rid of salary too.

So in short. They probably arent getting a big piece.

Devs and carolina on the other hand…..
Nhl radio today - Brian Englom - Tampa guy said they are looking at a number of big name players .

Good news: Tarasenko likes to shoot. Is elite at it. We need that in our mix. An elite Vatrano (I mean isn’t that how everyone has always described Tank…an elite Frank Vatrano?)

Bad news: His hand is dinged up right now. May take him a bit to get it back up to full speed. Could really affect his shooting for a bit. Hope it’s not a bigger issue than reported as that defeats the purpose of having him. Though he should balance our lines regardless.

Seems like Mikkola is a better skating Harpur who is hopefully more reliable in own zone. But may be a very weak first pass guy - might need yet another D at deadline…

Curious to see how Tank fits in. Seeing as how Mika and Bread have not totally meshed, it’s going to be even more intriguing to see how Tarasenko fits. Will his addition make it all click? Or will he only click with one of the two? Neither? Gonna be interesting.
