Good news: Tarasenko likes to shoot. Is elite at it. We need that in our mix. An elite Vatrano (I mean isn’t that how everyone has always described Tank…an elite Frank Vatrano?)

Bad news: His hand is dinged up right now. May take him a bit to get it back up to full speed. Could really affect his shooting for a bit. Hope it’s not a bigger issue than reported as that defeats the purpose of having him. Though he should balance our lines regardless.

Seems like Mikkola is a better skating Harpur who is hopefully more reliable in own zone. But may be a very weak first pass guy - might need yet another D at deadline…

Curious to see how Tank fits in. Seeing as how Mika and Bread have not totally meshed, it’s going to be even more intriguing to see how Tarasenko fits. Will his addition make it all click? Or will he only click with one of the two? Neither? Gonna be interesting.
2 Biggest things I love about Tarasenko's game are his offensive awareness to know where to go without the puck to get open - he's always moving to create a passing lane - and his willingness to shoot the puck quickly when it's passed to him.

Both things this team desperately needs.

Bringing in Tank allows you to deploy some correct forward depth and Trocheck should really be in that 3rd line center spot where he belongs.

There is some really nice depth spread out if they can stay healthy with this move. And if things need to change you could always try Kakko Chytil Tarasenko
Why is a finally well balanced lineup stacking two RW on one line?

Not to mention Chytil-Tank is an odd choice as they both prefer to shoot first.

The Rangers paid the Blues to take on Blais. The 4th into a 3rd is the pick. Double retention is usually 3rd/4th. The Rangers had one big move(money wise) and they made it. The Rangers needed 50% retention and had the Blues take back Blais to make the money work which leaves them with room to make one more depth move. They could have waited three more weeks where they would have had more accrued cap space. The Rangers and Blues wanted to make the trade now. The Rangers get three more weeks to integrate the players into their lineup and the Blues can now concentrate on moving their other players. I read/heard the Blues couldn’t get a 1st from the Rangers for Tarasenko without including Mikkola. The Blues have many suitors for Barbashev. I wonder how much Barbashev will cost. Not to the Rangers.

Vesey or goodrow will slot down to 4th line.

So you have 2 spots not a whole line to fix. I fully believe drury is going to try and get motte back.

Now if he does that does he trust kravtsov gauthier lesychin with the other spot? Or is that something he wants to change as well.

I still want Braun back too. Need 8 D for the playoffs

That sounds like a nice fit for Panarin

Kakko becomes a LW

we are running a bit thin on picks. Nemeth cost us a freaking two 2nd's ugh. Braun cost us a 3rd. Motte cost us a 4th. Copp cost us an extra 5th. Not trading any more picks from this years draft (Even the Georgiev 3rd rounder).
We’ll see where this goes obviously, but I have a feeling that guys like Kravtsov and Jones are going to turn into picks.

Regardless of whether or not those guys are going to ultimately pan out, timeline matters. You need guys to contribute now and in the future. You want those two buckets in balance as much as possible, both for the well being of the team, and for the players themselves (it’s not right to sit on competent players trapped behind better ones). Jones and Kravtsov seem to be in that no man’s land and are probably more valuable to some other teams than us right now. That’s how trades happen.

I'm not freaking out about trading the pick since we still have 1 left, but it's not about expecting a 50 goal scorer. It's about keeping the pipeline stocked. If we want to be good year after year, we need young players on cheap contracts to come in and contribute. Our pipeline is a little depleted right now. We've got some guys, but we can't be sure they will all work out, which is why we need to keep adding good prospects. We should still get 2 good ones with our top 2 picks this year.
Pipeline? What are you talking about?? The Rangers have, Schneider, Krav, Laf, Kappo all under 25 on the active roster who will almost certainly be on the team for 10 plus years… ( maybe not Krav)where would “pipeline” even play right now…

We stocked the prospect pool extremely well.
We lucked into fox, a 1 and a 2. We THOUGHT our pool was doing extremely well except only fox actually turned out anywhere near as good as predicted. The rest of our pipeline was average. Some legit talents like kam, plenty of reaches and question marks like Krav and lias

We were so extremely well stocked yet where in our top 6 are the prospects? Any of them showing up in our top line w and performing with any consistency? We weren't that well stocked. Lucking into a fox, a 1 and a 2 made it look like we were.. its not stocked anymore.
Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil, Miller, Schneider, and Kravtsov. All 1st rounders and on the roster.
Idk how anyone lists Krav like that's a positive. Laf looks like an all time bust. Chytil is good but our idiots in charge were too busy throwing all our cap at 30 year olds to lock him up. Simply being on the roster is not cause for celebration. Is that really how low the bar is?

I love how we keep shotputting our cap to 30 year olds BECAUSE we miserably failed to actually stock our pool and keep it stocked. And we keep throwing picks away on rentals. All bc we DIDN'T stock the pool successfully enough to fill all these spots throughout the lineup. Yet the defense fir throwing all the cap and picks and prospects away is: we were stocked.

If we were that stocked we wouldnt be trying to fill spots w 30 year olds every year

We still have Othmann in the holster. Sykora looks like an NHLer in the making. We've forgotten about Berard since he has been injured.
This isn't anywhere near as big a bonus as you think.
The Rangers are still one of the youngest teams in the league. We're not on our last legs.
Again, where is any of that youth in our top 6 performing consistently?
Lundkvist had no spot on the roster.
Yes. That's what a failure to plan will do. This is not a positive.
On top of all those things, the Rangers still have a 1st in this draft. This move doesn't shorten the contention window, it makes it wider for this season
I know for plenty of people this is good enough. It was really obvious this team was very far away from being any sort of threat to actual top teams 3 years ago. Every move we've made since has seemingly been in complete denial of this fact. And we keep throwing good assets away, chasing i dont even know what. At this point it looks like they're chasing playoff berths and that's it

No we barely beat Vancouver….pack it in, hand the cup to the bruins, Oo wait they’ve started losing, hand the cup to the devils, Oo wait they are charmin soft with a sub par goalie

Shit now I don’t know what to do

You know it's a bit disingenuous to equate not spending high end assets with "packing it in and giving the Cup to the Bruins."

No one is saying the Rangers have zero chance. Just that it's not a high chance, even with adding.

And that adding expensive vets rarely moves the needle or tips the scales.

So all in all it's a bad value exchange that likely results in no championship. If you want the championship the better odds are staying put and trying to draft a Pastrnak or Point late.

The cap is an excuse that the TBL master .
Smith went ALL in 94’
He went Luke warm in w Gretzky .

I’m saying - since we’ve dealt 1’s like nothing - go for it .
Get creative- get a team to retain cash.

We are starving for a Cup - are we not ?

Are you with me ?

The entire 4th line

Nhl radio today - Brian Englom - Tampa guy said they are looking at a number of big name players .
No. It should be clear that no one agrees with you lol.

It's not about right now. It's about when guys like Panarin, Kreider, Trouba, Trocheck and eventually Mika are gone. It's not as far away as you might think. Panarin has 3 years left, Kreider and Trouba have 4 and either could be moved earlier, and Trocheck could be moved for cap purposes once his NMC becomes an NTC in a couple years.

We won't be able to afford to replace all of those players with UFAs and/or expensive trade acquisitions. Teams need to maintain a steady influx of cheap prospects in order to remain competitive. Some of our current prospects should be NHL players, but who knows how many will actually make it or what sort of impact they will have.

I'm not saying we have to stockpile prospects as though we are rebuilding, but by the same token, we can't go through a period like we had between 2013 and 2016 where we had no 1st round picks and only 2 second round picks. In 2013, we actually managed to select 3 NHL players despite not having any picks in the 1st 2 rounds, but all 3 of those players were traded away at various points and for various reasons. We got lucky in 2014, taking Shesty in the 4th round, but no other player became anything. 2015 and 2016 were complete busts, and we got the rebuild letter in 2018.

I'd like to avoid getting another rebuild letter in 2028. I want the Rangers to be competitive every year, not just for 4 or 5 years then tear it down and start over. Drafting and developing players is vital to maintaining a good team in a cap system.

move over Chytil and Zibs... best shot on the team now

Maybe I'm being too optimistic... I'm expecting 2019 Tank.... maybe to bring 2019 Panarin with him

I think pretty much everyone here is envisioning 2019 Tank, unfortunately.

We may not be getting that player.

I hope I'm wrong and he still has lots left in the .... tank?

~rimshot~

So many scouting opinions on Tarasenko and often he is referred to as a bruising power forward.

I just watched as much as I could on him and im not seeing that. Not dissapointed in what i watched just not seeing power forward. His highlights reel from last season is really good. Lots of goals off the rush. Real pretty sniped from both side of the ice. Quick decisions with the puck. In that whole reel there is only like 3 or 4 greasy goals.

That's good because we need a sniper way more than we need a power forward.
