Yeah, but winning one round isn't the goal.

I think that's this organization's problem.

It sees the end goal as winning a round or two. That placates the fanbase as sufficiently "fun," and placates ownership as sufficiently profitable.

I know you say "talent isn't the issue, it's the internal development that is holding us back," but until something else changes, all I have to point to regarding the consistent underachievement is adding more young talent.
we were two games away from the Stanley Cup Finals last year. I don't think we are about "winning a round or two"

Upgraded Strome with Trochek
Upgrading Vatrano with Tarasenko
Downgrade Copp with Vesey?
Healthy Goodrow
Better Kid Line
Better Schneider
Better Miller
BEST Goaltender in the world
Trouba is now the most feared hitter in the league
Upgrading Braun/Nemeth with Mikkola
Rooney, Reaves, Hunt, Motte ---> Gauthier, Cuylle, Leschyshyn, Kravtsov (arguably the area we could most improve on)
people clamoring for Motte, Watson, Lafferty, Bonino, etc (probably can't afford Barbashev anymore) and we have cap for another bottom 6 tweak like that.

This is a better team.
Tarasenko is also a cup winner so bonus points there.

So even if he’s on the half wall he’s still in play from fox and he’s got a sick shot. This team needs someone other than Zibanejad that will shot the puck.
Except now your moving Zib to the middle where he'll rarely touch the puck.

Rangers have Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider, and Trocheck under contract for the next 3+ years. Likely 1 or 2 of them will go in that time, but there is no way we lose all 4 of them.

Yes but if two of them go and then I add another young, dynamic kid line... that's how multi winners are born.

I'm absolutely convinced that for some on this board, the only worthy 3rd pair guy has to be a top pairing dman from another team.
Dawg - we have an entire roster building thread talking about acquiring Jakob Chychrun to play on our 3rd pair.

I wouldn’t trust a majority of posters on this board to build a Lego set, let alone a hockey team.

If Tarasenko works well just sign him and do some LTIR trickery next season.

Crossing fingers. Maybe he'll take a discount to stay and play with Panarin.

If you can bring him back and get 3 runs out of him, that makes the deal more palatable.

I think it's pretty clear that Kravtsov is done here.

Even if he's not moved today, I don't see how hes still here beyond March 3rd.

Maybe, but this was said once before as well.

Preventing the devils from winning the cup is a noble goal

Great perspective. FYI- He has scored most of his points on 5v5 for his career.

love this deal, tough including a 1st in a loaded draft but you gotta give to get, we still have solid draft capital and didnt give up any valued prospects.

like mikkola as a decent depth dman

love tarasenko for this lineup. theres risk obviously with the history of injuries but hes been mostly healthy the last 2 years and in theory hes exactly what we need. hes a big boy that can play playoff hockey and has a history of production in the playoffs. more importantly hes a pure goal scorer. getting a guy who can shoot like he can fits much more in terms of skillset than a guy like kane.

all things considered this is a smart risk to take. he should be energized by the move to a team in contention and having a few russians on the roster should help with transition off. everything about this looks like an intelligent risk to give the team a real chance. if we could somehow grab tyler motte on the cheap and get under the cap i think that team should have a real chance.

Mikkola too eh? I half-jokingly suggested they should have taken Mikkola instead of Blais at the time of the Buch trade, knowing they fixate on size for the 6D. This is a solid trade that fits the approach management and the coaches have. And with Tank here hopefully Panarin wakes up too.
