i confess and apologize, i have no idea what is written in the 170+ posts above,
just back at my desk from meetings at HQ in Bergen County

but i found it funny the way the news was written this morning -
that Tony decided to sign when he realized that, at this time, he was only to get one year

the Rangers constraint is Cap not term, but (obvi) Cap hit applies equally to all years of a deal

NYR could not prudently exceed $925k.
If Tony wanted to take that for multiple years, I expect Gorts would have done that gladly

( i KNOW that is not realistic, it is mentioned in that context, that he relented due to term ...)

anyway i have said all along he needed to sign now, this deal isn't the important one -
now, if he has a season like last year, he earns himself a next contract of multiple years at multiple $M

He missed camp for a few K. That doesn't scream team player. He feels he's a better play than what he was offered lets see. If not oh well at least he's only signed for 1 year we can ship him out easily.

If Fox falls on his face or Gorton moves a contract (which he was supposedly trying to do all Summer) it could have easily been more than a few K. It may have been a risky play but I can see where he thought it could result in something...didn’t work out and he will still get camp and preseason games in. Wanting to get paid / negotiate for yourself doesn’t = not a team player but that’s just me.

Here's the thing everyone seems to have ignored...exactly WHAT was the reason for the holdout?

ADA wanted more term (length and/or higher salary), Rangers didn't move an inch from their offer. Then training camp starts and there is a massive buzz around the team. ADA wants to play with the Kakk. That's all. There is nothing else here.

As someone stated, if term was an issue (especially at that price), JG would have offered it without hesitation.

I think he's a decent player. But I also think he's highly overrated on this board.
I dunno, he’s a very good young player who has things to work on like most other young players. I think he was the best defenseman on the team last year, but that’s not saying a lot when you look at who played defense on this team last year

Gorton sounds non to pleased with how this went down from the tweets I’ve read

Not sure why you think there is any personal animus here.

It's a business. ADA is a business man. This was two businessmen that could not come to terms on a deal.

If GMJG allowed emotions to enter any negotiation, hes going to be a very unhappy man most of the time.

What are the odds he makes this team straight out of camp? It might be lesson time again, I hope they dont go down that road but it's possible.
