I really hope he requested a trade because if not, why wouldn't you do this over the summer to try and avoid buying out Shattenkirk? I highly doubt Ottawa over training camp and 2 games changed their mind and suddenly wanted Namestnikov.

I know it's probably not the popular opinion right now but Quinn views McKegg as a more effective bottom 6 guy than Namestnikov. From what I saw of Mckegg in the playoffs and preseason I agree with him.
I'm probably biased tho cause I was and am in the "Namestnikov was carried by Kucherov" camp.

Exactly. We couldn’t scratch Haley to make room for Chytil? Namestnikov is a viable middle six forward. Nothing special, but even just one hot stretch this year and as an expiring contract at the deadline I’d assume we could do better than a 4th. Oh well.

The trade is what it is. They traded a player they’ve been shopping for a while, who is an UFA, and got cap space, a roster spot, and a mid-round pick.

Would’ve liked a third, but at this point, Namestnikov’s value is what it is.
