Has to be a requested trade. Was moved to the 4th line last game, was never considered at a C spot when he has play it. Not being used on the PP.

Have to think the Rangers were more than willing too. Think they want to give Lemieux a shot on that 3rd line, McKegg can go to the 4th line.

The curious thing is that he has more skill than his potential replacements and now the 4th line is Smith and either McKegg or Haley with Andersson. Not the best spot for developing him.

Don't think there are really any free agents they could go get. One would be Brian Boyle. Fills a need at center and would be another mentor. If they make this move you could even look at a trade come February if they are out of it.

Bought out Shattenkirk instead of making him the 6/7 D to rotate with Deangelo/Fox to trade Namestnikov (who should've never been acquired for J.T. Miller in the first place) two games into the season.

I like what JG is doing, but this is a big loss. No other way to spin it.

Why now?

We only have 1 game over the next 10 days. I cant wait to see Smith Howden McKegg

This was the best return they were gonna get for Namestnikov. Just sucks they couldn't do it in the offseason albeit I'm sure Gorton tried.
Who knows what the next step is? Is Gorton looking around for someone to possibly fill the 2C spot?
Also the Ottawa 4th is a late third rounder as they are sure to be the worst team in hockey this year.

I wonder if the Rangers would sign Brian Boyle. Maybe a late signing? Provides vet leadership, size, grit and faceoffs. Maybe Names did request a trade.

Better be claiming someone on waivers at some point

We don't have enough NHL forwards on the roster

Pissed off at what the lineup will look like.

GET SOMEONE ELSE OR CALL UP KRAV/FLIP

He wasn’t acquired for JT Miller

We've weakened our team for no reason.

This is kind of how I feel. The time to move Namestnikov was in the off-season when they were figuring out how to get under the cap. At this point just hang on to him?

Even with this trade, someone would have needed to be bought out.

I also find it hard to believe they couldn’t have gotten a similar deal this past summer.

He must have requested a trade, not much else makes sense

They tried pretty hard to move him in the offseason. Teams generally don’t trade for depth in the offseason because why not sign a cheap guy or let your prospects try and take the role
