Maybe Sens are actually trying to be a good team next year?.. a few more years left to prove to Karlsson that he should stay and retire a Senator

This is basically a higher profile version of sutter/bonino isn't it?

Not a bad way for NYR to get younger and cheaper. Whats Mika's upside? i know nothing about this dude.

hes' got great tools, big potential. but he's so goddanm complacent. Doesn't compete very well, if he could ever figure that out he could still become a number one C.

We gave up Mika- im sickened.

Small comment on where I evaluate him as of last year. Currently not good enough to be a top tier 2nd line center but not rugged enough to be the 3rd line center.

I think people need to take a step back and realize a 2nd round pick is not very valuable. In the context of a trade of these two players caliber (which isn't to say they are that good), a 2nd round pick is pretty meaningless.

That said, as I said, I just don't see why Ottawa does this trade, it doesn't make any sense to me. The only thing I can think of is that by next year, Zibby is going to be making more than the 3.500M that Brassard will be making, but I'm not really sure that it would be so much more as to justify the trade.

I know I'm repeating myself, but seems odd.

I don't think he'll ever be a number 1 center, but he could still be a solid number 2. Maybe a 1b at best.

Like others have said, he has all the tools if he ever decides to put in the work.

Why not lock up Zibby at a reasonable cap hit. The kid hit 51 points playing on a dysfunctional team. While I like Brassard this move makes no sense for a cap conscious team that in two years will likely have to flip a then 30 year old asset. I don't think the Sens are anywhere near a cup contender and if they think they are wow.

Gotta give it to the Rangers Management on this one they Jedi Mind tricked the SENS GM bad.

Not sure how I feel about this.

Really liked Zibby but he's so damn inconsistent. Some plays he just looks like he's floating, but when he's giving it 100% he's a great player.

The 2nd round pick is annoying. I think we get the better player, but if Mika hits his ceiling this will be a big loss.

Not sure why Sens fans rate Zibby so highly. I've watched many Sens games as they're my second team and he is always underwhelming. I think Brassard is a big upgrade, but losing out on age hurts

Confusing on the Sens part. Pretty even trade as it stands right now but, not sure why they added a higher pick like that.

A 6th overall for a 6th overall, Brassard turns 29 before the season though.

I haven't read the thread but I'm guessing this has all been said already

This is how I feel about this.

Zibby has potential but he hasn't proven to be a consistent player

Brassard and Turris as a 1a 1b with Pageau on the third line is some nice center depth though. Certainly looks better than it did with Zibby. For now anyway.

For Rangers fans, you get a young player with potential who has a track record of being very streaky. He has a wicked shot that will sometimes hit the net. 51 points is no joke, that is what he is right now and I hope for the best for Zibby.

I feel like Ziba is being overrated here. I don't ever see him outproducing or being better than what Brassard currently is. Ziba has played four full seasons and his game hasn't progressed a ton over the years, he still has the same flaws that he had.

I'm a huge fan of this trade. Brassard's coming home and watching Zibby every game frustrates the hell out of me. He's very inconsistent.

This is a Melnyk deal. When I saw the deal I went straight to Fanager. Brassard's contract is front loaded. 5m this year, 3.5m the next 2. Zib is gonna make more than that on his next contract

I'm not a massive fan of either of these players. Anyone expecting Zibanejad to take another step or two will probably be disappointed.

I'm a bit surprised Sens had to throw in a second round pick in this trade, seeing as Rangers were the ones getting cap relief here but Brassard only gets paid $3.5M/year the last two years of his deal so I guess it's a real money saving for Sens given that Zibanejad probably will look for a raise soon.
