Whoa. I thought Brassard was heavy in the NYR plans. Decent deal for both, but I like this for the Sens a little better because of the potential upside.

It's close value wise, but TBH I think it's terrible for the Sens. It makes them a little better right now but talent wise they are still a bubble team. Getting older and still being a bubble team is a bad combo.

I dont see how Brassard is a short term upgrade though

Pretty sure your on your own island with that opinion

Both fanbases agree that brassard is the better player right now and he makes the sens a better team for next season and the near future

I guess you gotta ask where you see Zibanejad fitting in with Brown and White coming up.

Man, melnyk sure loves his contracts that are paid less in real money.

Well from an objective POV , I think its fairly even in terms of skill right now and Zibs is 6 years younger for christs sakes. Thats not a small gap.

I just dont understand it from a Sens vantage. You gave up a 2nd to boot.

Love it how senator fans tried to defend their lineup with arguments like "youth" and "potential". When they lose their one promising asset up front, he suddenly sucks.

Ottawas getting worse and worse and worse. Save yourself, Erik!

Absolutely not one Senators' fan in this thread said Zib sucked. He's underperformed based on his potential and he's not a very hard worker, but no one said that. What does suck is when people don't bother reading a thread, but want to post anyway.

Left handed pass first centre for a right handed shoot first centre.

My interpretation is that they think they are better than they are and feel Brassard puts them in a spot to win a playoff round. Maybe they even think they can win two.

IMO they are fooling themselves and will soon end up with a team that is both old and not good enough to contend for the playoffs.

Wow...out of no where seemingly...

I don't get this from Ottawa's POV...

Old? Are you serious? We've made some additions recently that've upped the average age, but we're not old. You speak like you know....absolutely nothing about the Sens! Hooray! :scared:

the rangers pantsed the sens

Why? Value wise NYR might have come out ahead - however it will likely take 5+ years before you even get to contemplate that 2nd being able to help the team (assuming you use it to draft a player).

But for Ottawa, Brassard does a couple things. First off, he address their lack of center depth and gives them another C who can hopefully distribute the puck better to give them another legitimate offensive line. Secondly, it's a very friendly contract. While he has a 5m cap hit, he's only owed 10m over the next 3 seasons (3m, 3.5m, 3.5m). For a team that's a little more conscious of the actual dollars spent, that's a good thing for them.

I don't dislike this from the Rangers POV and I like it from the Sens POV. Although, my big question for NYR is who will be their #2C? Looking at Capfriendly, it looks like Miller, Hayes, Lindberg or Jooris will be needed to be NYR's #2/#3 Cs. Not sure how well that will go for NYR if they're looking to get past PIT/WSH in the playoffs.

Sens had 4 righty centres last season, so flipping a righty for a lefty is nice.

Brassard is also a playmaker, something Ottawa desperately needed to play with Hoff and Ryan.

AND, Zibanejad is likely going to make 5M+ next season. Turris will need a new contract soon, and will be due for a big raise, in combination with White and Brown soon to be knocking on the door, it makes a lot of sense.

Agreed. As we all read 25 pages of a thread before posting. Dont you?
