I'm just glad Brass is out of the Metro. It felt like that dude would always come up big against the Pens.

Turris got hurt he got to ride shot gun on the first pp and play with Hoffman and Ryan all season.

He is a good player but there has been some serious red flags and it has nothing to do with talent. He has all the physical tools but just cant seem to put it together. Coming into camp out of shape two years in a row really rubbed me the wrong way. Its especially frustrating when you see what he can be capable of. I really think this trade is going to go one of two ways for Zibanejad, he will realize his potential and start being a true professional. Or with the pressure of being traded for a fan favorite in a big market he could succumb to the pressure. I hope he starts taking it more seriously because what a waste of talent. He should be where Scheifele is maybe better but he has fallen way behind.

How'd he get 46 points the season before?

He's 23 years old, most players don't break out until they're 25-27. I'm sure as hell he'll be motivated by a change to NY. I think this trade is going to be horrible for the Sens after a few years.

Meh, you take the risk. We have two stud prospects coming up at C and again, weren't at all thrilled with Zibanejad's training and play. What can you say? As someone said, it was time to shuffle the deck chairs a bit.

Surely there's some value in Ottawa adding a local francophone to their top 6. Though I guess they had one in Pageau much of last year, when Pageau outplayed Zibby for a lot more time than anyone expected he would.

Maybe a detected positive reaction among the francophone community to the rise of Pageau was reason enough for Ottawa to think about replacing Zibby (who seemed well on his way to inheriting the scapegoat mantle) with another player of comparable production but better local marketability to tap into that further?

Not really the case for forwards 23 to 26 is the peak, there are other variables for the sens here. I agree value wise the Rangers take it right now no debate but I do think its a win win. They really needed a left handed centerman, this makes them a better team now and the way the contracts line up and work with who Ottawa has coming down the pipe (Brown and White) when Karlsson contract is up (3 years).

Zibanejad may have never realized his potential here, I think he needed a wake up call. From when Turris went down Pageau outplayed him and not by just a little bit.

There is nothing wrong with a win win trade, as a sens fan I am excited about next season. The right changes are being made, new strong coaching staff with experience, the passengers and players that lack hockey sense (not zibanejad) have been moved out and Ottawa has a strong top 6 forwards and a strong top 4 D with some good prospects coming and decent forward depth (need another D man still).

The players that I couldnt stand are gone (Chiasson, Wiercioch, Cowen, Greening and to a lesser extent Zibanejad I found him frustrating). I hate the Prince move but loved the Brown one.

The fan base needed something to get excited about after a very disappointing season.

Hoffman Turris Stone
MacArthur Brassard Ryan
Smith Pageau Lazar
Paul/Dzingel/Kelly/Neil

Methot Karlsson
Phaneuf Ceci
Borowiecki Wideman

Anderson
Hammond

"Blah blah disappointing blah blah"

Just summing up his inevitable response.

Atleast I dont keep repeating myself.

Never once did I say that Zibanejad lacks talent he is a different kinda guy than most hockey players. But you guys are right he is young and definitely has un-tapped potential some people mature at different stages in their careers. This deal could certainly look horrible for the sens but the way things were going for Mika in Ottawa who knows.... There is risk reward in every trade I think this is win win.

Who, Zibanejad? He goes through the most ridiculous streaks you'll ever see. 1 goal and 1 assist in 14 games, then 10 points in 7 games. You're salivating at some points. Absolutely salivating at the thought of him finally breaking through, then he'll go back to being invisible for 15 games and you'll want him the F out of town. Then he'll get super HOT again and you'll be salivating...(repeat).

The trade is fine for you guys rn, Brassard is a gem and Ottawa will love him for sure. I'm just shocked we got a second rd pick included with this. I do think for sure we won this trade but you guys are in pretty good shape like you said with the center depth in the up coming years.

good luck!

His line kicked off our incredible run that year.

Prior to that, he wasn't doing much.

He's still a fine player, just that he left us wanting more a lot of the time.

I wouldn't be surprised if this trade really motivates him and he reaches another level next year.

This is one of those rare trades where it makes tones of sense for both teams. Rangers finally look like they are going to dive into a rebuild, sens get a guy that is a current upgrade and should get them close to playoff contention. I like it all around.

That's the price of having a team that counts its pennies unfortunately. Also, Zibanejad was up as an RFA next summer and I'm sure the Rangers made it clear to Ottawa that it didn't like to be in that situation.

Don't get me wrong, I was very surprised to see a 2nd in there. I thought that was a candidate for a 1-for-1 deal. And add to that Dorion is an amazing drafter...anyway, good luck to you guys too! No bad blood in this thread, which is pretty surprising. I guess we don't really have a rivalry (?).

So much this. Loved the player based on the times he was "on", but too often disappointed when the door was wide open for him to blow us all away.

Just a byproduct of the required "Sens got fleeced" sentiment for every move they ever make. Don't read more than that into it.

It's mostly laughs fans as they have proven over the last 10+ years how astute they are at evaluating talent. :sarcasm:

He's slightly better if at all.

Brassard is flashier and has a better slap shot. He also isn't awful on faceoffs. Stepan is better at everything else. He's been a significantly better even strength scorer the last 3 years (since Brassard became a Ranger) as there's no comparison in their defensive play.
