Stepan is not a better player than Brassard. LMFAO. Not only that he has become very brittle and his skating sucks. In fact now NONE OF OUR CENTERS CAN SKATE! We just lost speed where it counts. So please just stop. It's already a sore day as it is.

Zib has good top end speed, you'll get to see it 6-10 times a year which is frustrating. His goal totals are inflated as he goes through these hat trick games that make it seem like he is a world beater. Then you won't even know he is on the ice for the next 10 games, very frustrating but highly talented.

60 points and 58 points in the last two years

Those are low end 1C numbers

this could blow up into a debate-----

by my book a true #1C is near a ppg type of player. >=0.9 ppg this will vary based on team playing styles.

I think a #2 center on good teams would put up 0.7-0.75 ppg

You don't need a #1 center to the win the cup, but if you have 3 strong centers who are in that #2 center range and have balanced scoring you can win it.

Downright terrible deal for the Sens.

Brassard is a good player, no argument there. But the Sens give up the younger guy with a higher skilled upside (and at present the two players are essentially on the same level) AND they gave up a 2nd.

I'm really happy with this deal. We've been waiting for Zibby to show up for a while, he always leaves you wanting more.

IMO soft physically and mentally. Pageau certainly outplayed him this year which is quite shocking.

If Turris goes down, Brassard is a good replacement. Can't say the same about Zibby

Only 9 centers had had >=0.9 ppg this season, and 3 of those are actually #2 Cs (Washington, Pittsburgh, and San Jose) so your criteria is definitely inflated.

Have you actually compared those numbers to players? Your standard had 9 #1Cs last year (one of which was Pavelski, who played wing all season if I'm not mistaken), with your #2 center criteria cutting off at the 17th highest scoring center. Considering the list of 1Cs includes two players on Pittsburgh, two players on Washington, and two players on San Jose, that means only 6 teams had a 1C.

Now, those teams obviously had success (president trophy, and the two cup finalists), but if your standard restricts 1C's to 6 teams, there is an issue with your standard.

How can we encourage Erik Karlsson to walk as quickly as possible when his contract is up

It's ok. No other team would possibly want him. Apparently he is an absolutely terrible hockey player.

PS - I get all my info from HF

It feels sligtly desperat. Ottawa is little bit stuck in the middle and this trade will not change much short-term, this will not make them to contenders, but they could cripple themself little bit long term.

Seems to make some sense for both sides. Ottawa playing more for now while the
Rags have an eye to the future. Overall I like it slightly more for the Rangers as I think Zibby could be better than Brassard very soon and is younger and cheaper. Solid hockey trade imo

If to be a 1C you need PPG then there are very, very, very few 1C

At which point the designation is basically meaningless

It's justified with the money aspect. Like it our not, this was purely a money move by a cheap owner.

The amount of uninformed people who comment on our team's situation is amusing

Maybe take the time to find out about the team, the new arena, the prospect pool, contract situation before you try to look clever and end up looking like a fool

Good call, bot :biglaugh:

Read through the bots tweets. He is great my favorites are

"should they protect Anze Kopitar in the expansion draft?"

"could Vancouver Canucks be in the mix for Ovechkin at the deadline?"

"the chicago blackhawks could learn a lot from the general managers of the minnesota wild"

Maybe it was money motivated, and the dollars certainly point to that, but at least in the short term Ottawa is a better team with this trade.

Zibanejad is a 20/50 centre who is frustratingly inconsistent. He is a slow starter who shows up to training camp fat and takes a while to get going. The odds of him being better than Brassard when all is said and done aren't high. But of he does put it together, he could be a game changer that makes Ottawa look foolish for trading him.

NYRs save cap space this year, recoup a draft pick, and maybe save a bit of cap going forward. Ottawa saves salary with a cost controlled player who is likely to take a home town discount after this contract.

They are DIFFERENT types of players. Ottawa needed a left handed skilled top 6 C. People who don't watch Ottawa games might wrongly perceive this as only a centre for a centre.

As much as non-Sens fans perceive Ottawa as an inconsequential non playoff team, they are trying to win. This is a good move in that direction and age doesn't matter here. Brassard is still young, and no GM is going to neglect making their team better over the next 3 seasons in fear of what'll happen in six seasons. It isnt like Ottawa is trading an 18 year old blue chip for a player nearing retirement.
