Brassard career-high two seasons ago was 47 pts as a 26-year-old. Zib had 51pts as a 22y old. On top of that, they gave a 2rd. wow

way to be hosed, Ottawa.

We all have learned that production is linear  Terrible evaluation.

Not at all actually.

Zbanejad is getting paid 3.25 this season but will need a new deal next season and will easily make at the very very least 4.5-5M.

Brassard is making 5M this season, but 3.5 for the 2 following seasons.

Over the next 3 years Ottawa will save some money, this was probably a big part of the deal.

Are you sure? The 2 million bonus that was paid to Brassard is factored into this equation? (I'm not arguing, I'm actually not sure).

On first glance, I was pretty upset. Then I looked at it and thought it was pretty a lateral. Pretty much a now for later trade...never mind adding a first.

Brassard is the better player now, but Zibby is only 23 while looking like he's improving each year.

I like it for us. I'll miss Brass a hell of a lot, but we get younger and shed salary. Turris and Brass will be a good top-6 for the sens.

Sure you don't want Staal, too? :naughty:

Yeah while playing with Mike Hoffman and Bobby ryan ,thinking Brassard may do much better with those two than zibby ever did.Great deal for Ottawa who cares about the 2nd rounder:handclap:

I like this trade more for Ottawa. Brassard is the better player and Zibanejad just seems to be a guy who's never going to reach his full potential. He's a decent NHL'er...but nothing special. NYR gets younger, so I guess that's nice. Makes sense for both teams...but losing Brassard is a bigger loss than losing Zibanejad.

Brass is better but not by alot. Zib is younger and RH which we needed. We also get s much needed 2nd rounder. Fully understand the trade but it sucks to lose Brass but very fair trade.

Typical overreactions.

Brassard is such an underrated player on a good deal. His 2way play on the second line and on the PP was a big part of the Rangers offence being so successful for so long. Zibanejad still has room to grow sure but he's far from a sure thing, in my mind anyways.

As a Rangers fan, great and necessary, still sucks because of what we gave up.

However, need to give to get.

I don't think you can find a winner here yet. Both sides have fans that love and hate this.. Poor Zucc. He's losing all his best friends.

This is such a budget team hockey trade, it sickens me as a Sens fan.

In one single trade, the Sens got older, have fewer assets and now have less cap space (BUT HES ONLY GOING TO MAKE 3.5 MILLION AFTER THIS UPCOMING SEASON!!!).

They got a better player and addressed two huge needs. They are a better team this year I am ok with that.

Zibanejad has a higher ceilling but Brassard is better ATM.

Reminds me of the Subban - Weber, trade; Ottawa got better now but Rangers will probably win the trade long term.

Ah.

Cap Hit vs Actual Dollars.

Ok.

But isnt Mike Hoffman warranted a raise as well?

Are they projecting Hoff to earn less than Zibanejad then?

That's the opposite of Zibby, basically.

I like Zibby, but he's inconsistent becuase of his work ethic, not his skill.

Some games he just doesn't give it. When he does give it he's a very skilled player though.

Trade might wake him up like it often does for inconsistent players.

Hes not. 2nd line center, was a first liner on a rangers team who have no first line centers

He wasn't even our 1C. Stepan is...just because Brassard had more points last year doesn't make him the 1C, as many people here are alluding to (not saying you are)

I'm not getting the "NYR saved cap space angle". Zibanejad is likely going to be getting $5m or more in 2017-18, so any savings here are just for this season, when all the prime UFA's have already signed.

Ottawa gets Brassard at a real $ cost of $3m, $3.5m and $3.5m That's not bad at all.

It allows us to give a guy like Kreider the AAV needed on a long term deal instead of a short term deal because we are short on cap space.

If we turn around and sign Kreider to a 1-2 year deal then yeah, that angle goes out the window.

Brassard is the better player but i like this move by the rangers. At least they're not deluded into thinking they're contenders at the moment. Great long term move. Sens obviously trying to move into playoff contention, but I don't think they're good enough to be real contenders. Their team building seems to be all over the place. They might sneak into the playoffs but their long term plans take a hit.

I think both teams are kind of sad, but see promise in each player helping them change the dynamic.
