Zibenejad seems to be a stud and he was a hot young prospect for a while but damn am I going to miss Brassard. You Sens fans will love him, he's a gamer.

Dorion got owned here.

Brassard is the better player today, but the Sens aren't a Brassard away from anything special.

Gave up on a good, controlled young asset for no good reason.

I'm thrilled to have Brassard out of the division and I've never been terribly high on Zibanejad...but I still think the Rangers win this one long-term. This doesn't feel like a trade that really needed that 2nd round pick...but given the bonus money the Rangers just paid out it makes a bit of sense...that's peanuts (for the Rangers) to get a decent pick, though.

Ditto. Brassard always seemed to play well against the Pens, glad we wont have to face him as often.

Like this for the Rangers, but Brassard is underrated and the best player in this deal.

I wonder with Brassards salary coming in for Ottawa what this potentially means for Hoffman if they will pay him a high number or try to deal him?

Because they weren't really high on paying him a huge number because of internal salary but will be a good watch in the following week or so.

Sens save 250k this year with this trade since Brassard's signing bonus was already paid. 3M vs 3.25M for Zibby.

Brass only makes 3M the two seasons after this. Not unfair to speculate that this is a cost controlled motivated move by Ottawa.

Ottawa wins because Brassard is a better player but it's not a landslide. Rangers did well to shed salary and still get a pretty good player too.

As a player, I like Brassard over Zibanejad, especially considering Brassard is a left-handed centre. However, with age and the draft pick, I'm not sure how I feel about this. Especially knowing we had to wait until July 15 to save $2M.

Seems like a lateral move for both. Not sure what it'll change for either club

Brassard accelerates Ryan's game? If these guys can become a unit and have Turris on that second line secondary scoring role, Sens probably sneak into the Post season.

Ottawa wins this trade because it helps them continue their path on becoming a consistent playoff contender. Turris and Brassard as your top-2 centres is money, add in Stone, Hoffman, Ryan, and Lazar, and you have quite the top-6.

Rangers also win this trade because adding Zibanejad helps them get younger whole not losing too much among their forward ranks, opens up some cap space, and the 2nd round pick will help them replenish their prospect pool.

I like it for both teams.

Is Brassard THAT much bettert than Zibby?

I dislike Zibby, but their production isn't that far off.. but I never really followed Brassard so IDK

I'm pretty conflicted on this trade. If Ottawa was in a position to win right now, I'd say they win the trade but they're not. I dunno. Definitely a wait and see. Will probably largely depend if that 2nd rounder turns into anything.

Uh-oh, what am I supposed to do with the tickets I bought to see the Senators play the Blues?
Zibanejad, one of my fave players, goes to one of my least fave teams. :p

That's the opposite of Zibby, basically.

I like Zibby, but he's inconsistent becuase of his work ethic, not his skill.

Some games he just doesn't give it. When he does give it he's a very skilled player though.

As someone who doesn't love the trade, this is really encouraging. :)

It's hard to win over the NYR fanbase and become a fan-favorite here. Hell, there are fans who don't like Lundqvist. Brassard was universally loved by everyone who rooted for the Rangers. I expect nothing but the same for him in a Sens sweater.

Great trade for both teams when it comes to the players

Ottawa giving up the 2nd round pick really stings though but hey, the Rangers having paid the bonus already likely came into play and if that money means we get to sign Hoffman/Ceci then I'm all for it.

Short term - Ottawa wins the trade
Long term - Rangers win. The 2nd round pick tilts it their way.

Short term Sens win. Zibby may well never reach a higher ceiling. Sens obviously felt the short term benefits outweighed what they believe Zibby's peak will be, and where salary figures will be after next season for a RFA 50pt guy. Brassard's real salary is much lower than his cap hit the next few years after this coming. 3.5 real $ and $5 mil cap hit.

I like this for the Sens for the next 3 years.
