Holy crap people. If you haven't sen him play stop analyzing the trade like you have. Klein will be a perfect top-4 d-man on this team. He is a tough, in-your-face defensive d-man who skates well and can drop the gloves if need be.

He is 29, but he is also signed at 2.9 million for 4 more years after this one. That's a GREAT contract.

Is he a crease-clearer?

I'm positive you've never seen him play. Jesus.

So he isn't good enough to be a top pairing guy? But he is massively better than the rangers 2nd pairing guy? Who all season has played better than the first pairing guy?

And this thought process works for you?

Another HUGE positive of this deal is John Moore finally gets to play with a vet. He needs a stay-at-home partner so he can open up his game and jump into the rush more.

Klein is a great player to have. We could definitely use him in our top 4. MDZ fell out of favor, best of luck to him and I hope he reaches his potential but hes being wasted right now and we need a rock like Klein.

You've got to love the posters who, most nights, would have gladly traded Del Zotto for a bag of pucks, but somehow expected Seth Jones in return.

I expect AV was consulted on this deal before it was consummated. He would have seen a lot of Klein coaching the Canucks (especially in the playoffs). If he gave it the rubber stamp, I am more than okay with it.

Agreed, but I would've much rather packaged MDZ with someone like Brassard to make an actual trade.

This is a sideways trade for what should've been a trade chip that could've been used to improve the team. I think we failed to do that.

I agree, but this is reality, not NHL2014. Saying add Brassard doesn't necessarily get you a great 2C. MDZ has been awful all year, and I think Klein is a great return.

Stralman hasn't played better than Girardi in my opinion. Girardi gets tougher minutes and handles them better for the most part. Stralman has improved a lot, but he lets people get into the defensive zone and below the hashmarks too easily.

No one is stating who is the better overall defenseman. Defensively, Klein is better. Offensively, Stralman is better.

Stralman does nothing offensively anymore.

But he has become an excellent defensive player

I think you are looking at what stralman was supposed to be instead of what he has actually become

I'm 96% sure that he did.

McD - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
Moore - Klein

If this was based on the #1 thru #6

McD - Staal - Girardi - Klein - Stralman - Moore

take away Klein's physicality and he is Stralman

Or as the great Ace Ventura once pointed out

"Finkel is Einhorn!"

ppl forget how well MDZ played defensively 2 years ago.

This system, and the asinine man to man coverage was what killed his value.
