Drance isn't connected to the Canucks. Just another media guy speculating for clicks.Players and management don't include media types in their discussions. They barely tolerate them as is.

Drance definitely connected, he has broken signings, contract numbers, trade targets etc before.

Makes sense. Rangers probably won't/shouldn't do it though.

That's a fine line to walk on. I hated when the Devils traded Jason Smith and Sheldon Souray, but they won cups. The Rangers don't regret trading Tony Amonte for a cup. I doubt even the Flames regret trading Brett Hull!

I'm sure someone can come up with more recent examples, but the Cup justifies just about everything.

Drance of the Athletic on the radio this morning saying the Canucks have set the price on JT when it comes to the Rangers and they dont plan on re-considering and are willing to wait until the off-season to move him , if they even do.

According to Drance, NYR has to attach 1 of Schneider, K.Miller, Laffy along with a pick if they want Miller before TDL.

Drance btw is very connected when it comes to the Canucks

that’s hard on the rangers because LHD is something they need and they won’t part with Schneider or laf so trading miller enhances their need for LHD

Pass and take a run at him via free agency.

Drury is in a good spot here. 5 of these teams buying dont have a 1st. Rangers do. They also have significant assets not named Schneider, Miller or Lafreniere. I think his offer will be as good without those names compared to the rest of the market.

Every year fanbases say they won't give up certain assets for a trade, and every year teams end up doing just that. I don't think any Ducks fan is asking for too much when it comes to Rakell we know his worth and we aren't asking for the world.

Plus how often do those "untouchable" prospects/young players end up not hitting potential? Branstrom to Ottawa seems like the best example, but I think we just forcefully forget when a top prospect is traded to the protest of the team's fans, and they don't turn into a top player.

Rangers have a lot of really good young pieces that should all be kept. Small adds at the deadline to reward the team for a strong year should be the most they do. Their window is just opening up, they have time on their side.

Most team fans posting on HF, routinely forget they don’t speak for the team… they only speak for themselves.
The team GM will make the decision… very likely without checking with the HF fans first.

Glad to hear, long way from the old Jimbo explanation of "well we had to settle for less than we wanted, and throw in a draft pick because sometimes you just gotta get deals done."

NY is free to not make a deal, it is a steep price, but not an unfair one

Miller is slowly coming off the table because the Canucks are within striking distance of a playoff spot.
Don't expect him to be available at the deadline if the Canucks win the majority of their next few games.
The Canucks have alot of teams to jump over. They are in striking distance but still likely not to be a playoff team.

Neither Schneider or K'andre Miller are even true A prospects, maybe A-. They're fine, but don't really move the pulse for me. Also regardless of what Rangers fans on HF boards thinks, certainly sounds like your management is continuing to pursue JT, so maybe you're the ones who are out of touch with reality. They might even think they ARE cup contenders.

If any team should move a top 4 dman prospect like Schneider, it's NYR - who have a very good chance of re-signing Miller this summer. Having said that, Schiefele for a package around Schneider would be a better move if he's available IMO.

Apart from that, Miller's value will increase if he agrees to an extension with a team in the summer.

They have no chance of resigning him.
He is going to want Zibby money.

Don't blame Van one bit, will be interesting to see how this shakes out as the deadline approaches. Right now they're probably not willing to pay that, but if a divisional rival looks like they're pushing for Miller, that might light a real fire under Drury's ass.

Miller is sitting 10th in league scoring, you don't give away a guy like that for Kravtsov and 1st like rangers fans have been pushing.

Scheifele for a Schneider package is definitely a good move for both teams… unfortunately, based on recent reports, Chevy is unlikely to move Scheifele.

Yeah completely understandable. Not worth it for Rangers though
This is probably the right read. Canucks should ask the world to move him now (as should be expected when selling a $5.25M AAV point per game forward for two playoffs), and buyers should not necessarily pay that price.

By waiting, the Canucks can potentially negotiate a reasonable extension with Miller in the Summer, and if not, they can still get a good return for Miller in the offseason or at next season's trade deadline.

If someone budges and pays a high price, Canucks get a real haul and it was worth it to move Miller.

It was a 2nd and 3rd for Zuccarello. The Rangers couldn't even get two guaranteed 2nd's for Zuccarello. There were a million rental forwards available that season in 2019.

Zuccarello was a 5'8 forward with a poor track record in the post-season. I'm sure Rangers fans would have loved a better return, but I don't think anyone but maybe them would have expected one.

Zuccarello had played 59 playoff games in New York and only had 31 points.

Laf, Schneider and Kakko are not being moved.

Plenty of assets to get a top player without moving your best young players
I can speak from a Canucks perspective and say that I would not move Miller to the Rangers unless one of three you mentioned are involved.

At least from the perspective of this Ducks fan, I think there’s a move to be made here. Seems like the Rangers have a lot of young defensemen who are very close to the NHL or are ready to make the leap, which the Ducks are starving for at the moment

I think that Lundkvist to the Ducks sounds pretty good.
